exhaust flow?

so im running a 5" mbrp exhaust and im needing a new tailpipe section. but i also want duals.....my local muffler shop can only bend up to 3" so im wondering if a set of dual 3" tail pipes will flow the same as or close to what my 5" flows now?

Pi * radius ^ 2 = area.

3.14 * 2.5 * 2.5 = 19.6 sq in for 5"
3.14 * 1.5 * 1.5 = 7.06 sq in for 3"

So 20 vs 14. I doubt it will have any performance drop.

all the kits i have found for duals are quite pricey. even if you look at a dpf back setup for a lmm/lml. i think my local shop can do it significantly cheaper if the 3" pipe will be big enough. one of my customers just had a set built for his 6.0 choke, but we all know it aint pushin out any air.....thats why they call em chokes! but i like how they built his and laid it out.

You need to stop in to a truck stop shop the one around here can do up to 5". They did my 95 truck when I had it.

Two 3" pipes will flow about 2/3 what a 5" pipe will.

But a 5" pipe is overkill. 4" is about all you need, so two 3's (14 sq in) will flow plenty, since a 4" is 12.6 sq in.

well ill ask around to see if anyone can bend 4" but i dont think they can. but i shall see!

called the muffler shop and they wanted to sell me a kit for about $400 then charge me close to $300 to put it on....i said yea let me decide what i wana do and ill get back to ya.

im thinking thats a big no sir.
