I've owned my truck for 2 and a half years now and it has always been louder than it should be. strictly speaking of motor noise. noise is not more prevalent at idle or any RPM. sounds like an early 7.3 in cab. truck was stock tuned for 1.5 years before EFI and nothing changed. injectors have 32k on them and are apparently 50% over. my guess is maybe a shotty set of injectors? thanks in advance for any help.

nope. it actually hardly smokes at all. My biggest tune is about a 200 hp tune and even it only grey hazes. no smoke at idle or anywhere else.

I honestly couldn't give you the correct diagnoses. It sounded like a stuck injector at first.

If the truck driveable; I couldn't imagine it being a broken crank or a spun bearing,

Yeah I definitely don't think its any internal hard parts creating the knock. My guess is it has to be something in the injection system. It doesn't sound as violent as a hung open injector, but maybe a much more mild version of that. But yes I've run power service, lucas, 2 stroke oil. any other ideas?

Problem Solved

Pulled the rubber boot around the shifter and there was no insulation around the hole in the floor or shifter linkage. insulated it up with dynamat and put the boot back on. Unbelievable how much noise came through there.
