To all the guys talking about him speeding, I drive 80 miles one way to work and would almost bet it’s one of the same roads as the OP (85, 485, somewhere like that) on 85 the speed limit is 60, 485 it is 70. Both roads at any given time, in order to keep up with traffic and not cause a major delay or get ran off the road, you’ll be going 80-85 with people still riding your ass. In NC, just because you are going the speed limit does NOT mean you are traveling a safe speed. Granted most morons don’t know what a passing lane is. However, when every car around you is going 10-15 over the limit and you are going the limit, YOU are what will cause the accident or get some irate moron with road rage after you.

To the OP I feel for ya bud. Probably a trooper that got ya and they’re notorious for this around here. I pucker anytime I’m going 5+ over. Unless you get an ass of a cop, as long as you’re not in the back of the pack you’re usually fine. I will say our trucks are more of a magnet than all the soccer mom mobiles that regularly go way faster than they should.

Sometimes if you show up and pay at the window they will drop it to a parking ticket and cut the fine. Sometimes not lol. I have pre-paid legal and let them handle it. No points and $220-$250 fine. Haven’t dealt with a ticket in 20 years. Including an exhibition of power ticket when I had my Camaro. They handle other things as well. I’ve used them for writing letters and what not.

You were speeding, you got caught. It happens.

At court, try to negotiate the ticket down to paying the fine and taking the driving class to erase the points. Chalk it up to "one of those things".

I got nailed in VA in 2015, total bull shit ticket, cop was nicknamed "2 STOP" by all the lawyers in that court district, he was a lazy POS who had to meet his quota, so he would tag a speeder and then whomever was closest in proximity driving was stopped and given the same ticket.

The guy was legendary in that podunk VA county, wrote on average 15-20 per day......400+ a month.

I hired a lawyer and got it knocked down some, had to do traffic school, etc.........sucked for sure.

Wife got singled out last fall in a group driving her Red Porsche, its a stand-out for sure, and the cop admitted she was traveling in that group of vehicles, but he figured she could afford the ticket.......that is what he told her while handing it to her..........

TOTAL DICK !!

I got that one tossed completely............it cost me $500 but the look on his face was worth $10000.........:thumb:

Yup. 85.

My 72-73 puts me usually in the next-to-left lane, where virtually everyone is running about the same. The far right lane is full of people running 10-20 under the speed limit, for reasons unknown. And the next-to-right lane is for the do-gooders with hands at 10 and 2 going exactly the speed limit.

The folks passing me in the left lane are going quite a bit faster, sometimes a LOT faster. I'd estimate I get passed 5-6 times per minute. So over my 60 mile drive to work, that's HUNDREDS of people going faster than I am. A lot of them I'd guess are easily doing 80-90.

Chalk it up to "one of those things".

That's pretty much what I'm doing at this point. But....I wasn't going as fast as he said I was.

After closer inspection of my citation, it actually shows he clocked me with radar, not Lidar as I had assumed. There is a zero percent chance that he could confidently assume I was the one going 80 in the amount of traffic I was driving in, with radar. Zero. For all I know, with the low barricade between travel directions, he could have registered someone on the other side of the road, or someone 1/8 mile behind me.

He screwed up. It's as simple as that.

I've always had the feeling this kind of stuff goes on more frequently than I realize. Just never thought I'd be the one to get caught up in it. And it's a sad state of affairs when there's absolutely no repercussions for this type of behavior.

I once had a cop insist i was doing 130 on the freeway while hauling a full load of wet carpet to the dump. I was able to convince him eventually that my truck wasn't physically capable of that speed. Sometimes you just have no idea whats going through their heads:confused:
