So since "many" failures aren't posted on the interwebs, here's mine for an FYI, datamining expedition, finger pointing, education, whatever :D:

In Edmonton at the NHRDA race last season I noticed a little oil under the pcv catch can before my second qual run. Kind of disappointing since I was #1 qualifier and had ran a new best the night before at T&T. The little guy on my shoulder who writes the checks told me to go park it, despite the little guy on my right foot telling me to not be a pu$$y :baby:. Turns out water vapor was washing oil out of the can breather.

Hard radiator hose, low on water. Took the valve covers off and had a pushed out cup on the driver side (water and oil on the valve cover). Replaced the cup and no dice, would pressurize the cooling system very quickly. Pulled the head thinking it might be bad. The mechanic said he thought he saw a crack in a cyl. after some penetrant dye. Engine builder couldn't say one way or the other so I called it quits. Oil "looked" fine (not milky).

Last week after mag testing the block, that cyl was cracked and the one next to it as well. #2 main bearing was on it's way out too. A little fretting on the caps. Everything else was perfect, crank magged fine.

Not sure about that bearing. Had oil analyzed a couple times and cut apart filters and everything was fine. Engine builder said oil in the pan looked good at teardown, but haven't looked at the filter yet.

I don't think it's too bad after 100 or so passes at ~900hp.

Stock caps with studs, block filled over half way (about half way up the inlets, the filler chamfered to improve flow in).

So new plan is LBZ block and go back at it.

Wingo Widgets have never broken even at 5,000HP towing an aircraft carrier on a trailer up the Cajon Pass at 150mph. I've been running Wingo for 100,000 Texas Mile passes (all in one year!) and they get stronger and stronger the more I run them. BTW - I sell Wingo parts".

Are you listening Wade and Steve? ;) Crap like that not only makes YOU guys stupider, but drops the collective info available to all Dmax racers. Dmax racers aren't your enemy. They are your livelihood, and our passion.

I could heat my house by burning $100 bills from funeral fires... :eek:

Yeah, I realize that happens. That's kind of like dropping drawers to measure, then just leaving out the minor detail that the ruler is in centimeters. I'm not really worried about it.

I considered not posting it, then I thought what the hell. If it can help save just one life :rofl: Not that there is any quantitative data in it, but just another small case study.

You may very well be the smartest guy on this board. I don't know a lot of people (me included) who would have parked it and not fired one more shot in anger. Good luck on the new build!

So the block/cyl cracked even being half filled?! Sheesh! Where were the cracks in relation to the fill level?

Maybe 1/2" or so into the filler then the rest above.

Is your block fire ringed, or am I seeing something else in the picture? How much if any did you bore the cylinders?

Yes it is ringed. Just orings on the block, no groove in the heads. Just a few thousandths protrusion. Don't remember how much exactly. Stock bores.

I saw your truck in Edmonton last August. I was hoping to see you run, but now I know why I didn't. Good luck on getting back up and running. Are you going to fill the next block as well? Girdle?
