i have searched a bit but didnt get a positive answer or real life examples how high can you rev a duramax ..lb7 in particular say if it were drag only truck i believe the higher rpms would be better for speed . i read that banks revently revved their supercharged duramax to 8000 i believe just looking for knowledge and how fast one could be spun

Depends on cam, heads and supporting mods.

That being said I've seen 4200 once. No need for me to rev it any higher with stock cam and heads

also depends on turbo setup, stock motor with 66/80 turbos my trucks power curve was pretty flat until 4k so i ran it to 4ish at the track.

I think the "norm" for typical extreme D-max performance is 4200-4500 for guys sled pulling and running semi-built to fully built engines, I know that there's a few adventurous guys here pushing stock engines close to that RPM realm as well, but I couldn't tell ya hiw many minutes of use they're getting out their engines at that RPM tho

Gale Banks has had a personal goal to hit that 8k mark for damn near a decade now, I didn't realize he'd finally done it...just keep that in mind, it took "Gale Banks" nearly a decade to accomplish that feat...

I've spun the dumpster to 4000+ a bunch of times (pretty much every time I do a burnout). A couple of weekends ago, I went through the traps at 4400 RPM, and I did the same thing once or twice a couple of years ago. I didn't really mean to do it, but it doesn't seem to have hurt it any. I know it's an LBZ instead of any LB7, but the valve train and rotating assembly are very close to the same.

I thought I had read somewhere that the lb7 was limited because of the ecm not being able to process information very fast in the higher rpm but I could be wrong

I've seen 4000 before with my stock LBZ. No need to do it because the stock turbo is such a restriction that it dies off FAST above 3500rpm or so

I wasn't paying attention at the strip heating up my tires and turned mine 4800. Blew a heater hose and ruined a water pump. Coincidence?

I've turned many stock lb7 and stock bottom end trucks 4200-4500 sled pulling, and customers of mine, we are turning my pulling LLY 5200-5500 rpm on a regular basis now with the new found power, changed camshaft too. But I don't think that really changed much, same intake and exhaust duration anyways...
