If you ever need help let me know. I am just right down the road from you. Make sure the red wire goes to a keyed power not constint power.

What happens with constant power, Ive been fighting my EGT gauge for quite some time. I got it in June and it hasnt worked since day one.

Ive tried different power sources, different grounds. All of which I know were good because I tested them.

Ive also tried two different thermocouples but it still sits at 1600*.

For some reason I never actually hooked it into a keyed source though.

Use an ohmmeter and set it to millivolts.

Check the thermocouple. It should read a few millivolts at room temp. I forget how much. If it reads 0, it's probably bad. Double check by setting to ohms. It will probably say infinite or very, very big number.

Well I used the thercouple that came with the gauge and I was told that it may be defective.

So i installed the brand new one that came with the replacement Edge for my dads truck. Still nothing.

Ill try checking it.

A thermocouple is just two different kinds of wire soldered together at one end.

Depending on which metals they use, they make voltage, even at room temperature. So the only way it can "bust" is for the joint to fail and not allow electricity from one metal to the other to flow.

They fail ALOT on turbodiesels. We are experimenting with LMM sensors on Casper so we have more reliable gauging of EGTs for racing.

If you bridge the wires to the thermocouple( twist them together or use a jumper wire) the gauge should read ambient air temperature. this should tell you whether the gauge is working or not. The resistance in any given wire will change with temperature. That is essentially how the TC varies its signal ,through resistance change due to temperature change.
