Hey all.

Middle of EGR delete. I have everything out. I cannot get the deviant up-pipe and the RDL downpipe to fit, I do not know what to do. If anyone has a trick please let me know, if I can't get it back together I will be grounded here at the shop until I can figure it out.

No, the up-pipe is a replacement for the LMM OEM uppipe with EGR. However, the new pipe has no clearance bends.

I had a call from Rick, who said that my issue is normal and not problematic.

What the issue is, is that the downpipe tab, that should bolt to the bracket off of the up-pipe does not line up. This is common, most people ditch the bracket and run without it. Special attention to be paid lining the exhaust back up.

SOrry for the nervous nelly post, but I was really worried for a moment about not being able to run the truck.

Two longer bolts, and two shims between the up pipe and bracket will move it out some? If it's not rattling I wouldn't worry about it. But with my luck it would rattle like hell.:roflmao:

Hopefully you jacked the cab up to make your life easier! They should make the tab on the downpipe larger and slot it to make it easier to use that bracket. I always get that bolt in but have to fight it. Im afraid if I do t get it in it will cause a rattle, on the flip side im not sure if it causes any stress to the flange welds or turbo by forcing it to line up.

no rattles. I did not raise the cab.

Honestly, I was doubting how tough of a job it would be, thinking other posters maybe didn't have tons of tools or know-how etc.

What a total bitch the install really was. I was exhausted, bloody, pouring sweat and ready to kill kittens. And, to top it all off, the truck slipped off the lift onto the arm at one point leaving a nice rocker dent (out of sight at least). Now that it has been a few days and I have recovered what humanity I had, it was definitely worth it and i'm glad that sucker is out of there. I can't really give any more advice to future readers other than don't sweat it f that bracket can't be used. I removed it and have no issues thus far.

don't use it even if you can reach. The aftermarket DP's like to fail where that tab is welded to the pipe. I learned my lesson the hard way. The replacement got it's tab cut off and has lasted for years and years now. The first one bolted down didn't make it a year. My buddy had the same problem. Now whenever I know someone doing one, I tell them to ignore/cut it.

Lml driver dipstick is about $20.. Just have to cut a few inches off to make it work.

My driver side dip stick didnt fit worth a crap, only one of the tabs lined up, and then it was touching the glow plug controller. Its been fine though. It was also touching the lower fire wall heat shield (the one way down there) and it was rattling like crazy. Drove me up a wall for months trying to find that noise. But yea it's just kinda irritating when you spend that kind of money on something, and it doesn't fit right. Mine was either from fleece, dhd or merchant. Cant remember

But it is an easy install, straight forward.

My downpipe has the tab and a fabricated strap all the way around the downpipe, I just did not like the idea of my resonator and 40" muffler and some 10 feet of exhaust pipe pulling on the downpipe at just the turbo clamp. Not only the usual horrible roads beating the truck but the expansion and contraction of the whole exhaust system which can be substantial on a long trip especially when towing......

You need to take into account how the exhaust system is designed to expand in a linear fashion when heat is introduced, carry the weight of the system on the hangers and move with expansion, the engine mounts which are rubber, and ride with the flex of the frame, without a strap it will tug on the downpipe/turbo connection, cant deny that.

Will it break the weld on the downpipe near the turbocharger, stretch the clamp, you won't know till you remove the downpipe. Will it cause any issues on mine, never, it was obvious the tab would break off so I strapped it.

From what I have read the "tab" was eliminated by most suppliers/manufacturers because they broke off. Of course the 3/16-1/4 thick steel tab will break off welded to what a 14 gauge pipe..DUH.....

The suppliers/manufacturers have gotten us used to accepting cheap parts, just the way it is....:thumb:

Two reasons why I installed a strap, if you're not using a muffler you're probably OK..
