Great ! You'll be happy when you get it; You will need a laptop for the software, purchase EfiLive from vendor of your choice like McRat, it comes with v2 scanner, a couple of tunes and DSP2 or DSP5 switch to change tunes on the fly for 800.

Can you keep tunes stored on the V2 for changes? or is laptop mandatory for changes?

How fast does it take to download a tune.

I used to have HP tuners for my Gasser, but this is a new ballgame for me too.

EFI is working on a way to store tuns in V-2 for the LBZ LMM boys, but the DSP switch store the tunes for the LB7 LLY boys. It take about 8 minutes to load a tune at the most. Laptop makes it way easier it sucks runnin a usb line all the way through the house to your truck outside.

How long does it take to go from switching tunes (while driving via DSP switch) to getting the power to the pavement? Are there any issues or things that have to be done to go from one tune to the next while driving? (like do you have to ease up off the throttle for a few secs etc...)

When you are writing the tune you input the time it takes to go from 1 to the other. I typically put a number high enough that if I am going from the front position and counting clicks back to my desired position it doesn't go into each tune along the way. Nothing special needs to be done to switch tunes on the fly. I PMed you our prices.

nope

i bought V1 from guy in feb 07 it got stolen feb 08 :(
met nick at crude drags few weeks later and offerd me a V2 to replace my V1.
went out of his way to get me back up and running which i appreciated greatly.

efi live has for the most part unlimited potential. probly the most all aorund powerful tuner for our trucks. and tunign is on demand no mail in waiting..

there is a learning curve.. DIY or send/email the tune off to someone and they adjust hte tune acrodingly and email it back to you.

I used to have HP tuners for my Gasser, but this is a new ballgame for me too.

At this point of time FlashScan V2 is still a work in progress. We've released standalone DTC's and Black box logging, however standalone flashing and tune storage should move into BETA shortly. (Paul hopes to open a new BETA forum on our site before the end of the month)

Black box logging allows you to store logs to internal V2 memory or to an SD memory card. When we release standalone flashing, both of these options will be available for tune storage. Effectively, the number of tunes you can store will be limited by the size of your SD card. A 512mg SD card could store logs 24/7 for a week and still have room for plenty of tunes.

What this means is today a laptop is mandatory, however soon it will not be. How soon will depend on testing - it's been an 18 month process to get this far when we expected 3-6 months, so setting a defined time isn't going to happen.

Downloading a tune for your LBZ will take 3-4 minutes, and reflashing will take 1-2 minutes. We operate our software a little differently to HP Tuners, we download the ECM and TCM independantly of each other - you the user selects which controller to download, whereas with HPT you are forced to download both the ECM and TCM file each time.

Hope that helps
Cheers
Cindy

keep going guys. I've always wanted to ask this question but I never have. I'd like to get with someone who is around my area so I could check it out and see what's going on. I understand some of the terms and perameters but not all of them. I don't want to make a Newbie mistake and melt my pistons. Thanks for answering all the questions. You guys really have no idea how much I learn here everyday.

Might want to let us know where you are so some one in your area can speak up.

You can download the EFI Live software from efilive.com and start getting familiar with it. Then you can buy EFI Live from one of the vendors here and it will come with at least one free custom tune and phone support. There is a lot of reading that can be done about tuning and within EFI Live you can compare your stock tune to the custom tune we make you to see what all we changed. Without making big adjustments to some very critical tables without knowing what you are doing then going out and beating on it - you really can't hurt much. Read alot, ask alot of questions, and make small adjustments. There are alot of EFI Live owners who have never made their own tune.

Thanks for all the info. I didn't know you could dowload the software and do some pooking around without purchasing it. I had read that when you do purchase the product from a vendor they will linclude a tune or let you purchase one from them. It's nice to have something to go with straight out of the box. I tend to not leave anything alone. I don't think I would mess with a tune beacuse i'm flat out scared of ruinning my engine. I have also noticed that there are a lot of guys that choose to let people who know what they are doing tune their truck instead of the owner of the truck making tunes. That will be very helpfull to me in the begining untill I get a grasp on things. I think for now I will just read and try to find out all the info I can. I will remain a fly on the wall so to speak and learn from the pros. I'm not sure when I will purchase EFI Live but I will make a few phone calls when I'm ready. I'm not trying to waste people's time when I can find the info out myself. Thanks for your time and info.
