No Tuna Wars! :D

But it would make a great Reality Show. I'm tired of towing company fist fights ...

Seriously,

The best tuner is yourself in the long run.

Spending the time to learn how your engine operates by using EFILive will solve a lot of problems that aren't even tuning related.

I'm no longer tuning anything but my own trucks, but when I was, I told people that the tunes I build them are a learning tool, not the ultimate. Hence they were always unlocked.

EFILive taught me more about how our engines operate than any other single source, and it's the coolest tool in my toolbox.

As far as who to buy from? All the vendors here have a good rep as far as I know.

Something else I told people - If all you want to do is increase your HP, and aren't interested in learning about your truck, a handheld tuner is pretty much as good as anything out there, and is the right tool for what you need. I recommend PPE. In fact, many EFILive "tuners" used the handheld tuner data as a starting point.

Vary well said. It's hard to tune if you don't understand how the parts your tuning work. Also makes it harder if you have something wrong with your truck and trying to tune it.

As Pat said....Anyone who has had a PPE programer then got EFI used their tunes to see how things worked. I loved my PPE Hot+2ET but wanted to learn how things worked so I went with EFI. I had Rob Coddens back in late 07 help me tune my truck. Yes I learned alot by looking at his tune he built me and then tinkered with that. EFI really is a good tool to learn from.

Tuners using other tuners tunes as a base to modify and call their own seems to be a reoccurring theme...

not that i'm accusing you at all of doing that! however I've herd of it happening on multiple occasions.

That's why tuners have to lock there tunes now. My old part time boss was well known for the cause of this.

Folk accused me of that, falsely. They STFU when I became the first one to build a 540rwhp LBZ tune, and first one to put an LBZ tuning truck into the 12's. The "Wendy" tune remains one of the strongest LBZ tunes out there, and has probably put more trucks in the 12's than any other single tune if you include it's "derivatives".

It's unlocked.

I don't ask for a key to somebodies truck to keep, so why should I have a key to their ECM?

Unless you built your tune from scratch on a dyno (like my tunes), you really have no reason to lock a tune unless you're afraid of somebody seeing whose tables you used to build it. JMO.

Agree with most of this but if you spent all that time building and refining your tune to accomplish all that you have. Why leave it to chance by keeping it unlocked for someone to duplicate, modify and call their own?

So people can modify/build on it to suit their truck...Other "tuners", no names mentioned, were able to duplicate/modify/call their own...

Exactly. My old boss did not know how a Injector works, what drive pressure is, basically how a diesel motor works. But yet created tunes in a week. To many copy paste tuners out there.

Steve Schmitzer gets my vote he was very easy to deal w/ and repied very fast to emails etc i have had prob 15 duramax's and my lly is the smoothest running of all of them

Idaho Rob Coddens is very good and has tuned more trucks on the 50 fastest Dmax list than any other tuner. Steve Schmitzer is also very good and actually cares about his customers which is getting rare amongst diesel vendors these days. Steve tuned Dazzle pants truck to +1700 HP so his credentials are good as well.

There are others on this site with a great reputation for quality tunes. I don't personally know them so I can't vouch for their customer service. Hope that helped.

Hey thanks guys! :)

Try being a tuner and calling the Craigslist tunazzz to tune your truck... They give you this awesome story about how their tunes change the world... But then you ask them how timing works, or how fuel is calculated from MAF, or even how torque based fuel works, and the conversation ends... Lolol
