I would like to do something like efi and exhaust but being new to diesels it kind of makes me uneasy not knowing what I'm doing. I like the idea of Banks chips just plug it in and it takes no brains and its adjustable on the fly which efi isn't I think. I would like to get ride of the DPF which I was told you can't do with Banks. I also don't think I want alot of smoke, do you get that with efi or is it just the tuning you choose to do? I would like good power gains and some mpg's.
I guess I could find someone to work on it for me. There is a local guy I know we used to party together who has Central Michigan Diesel Performance I am sure he could help. Last I knew he had the national record for most hp in a diesel pick up.
So I am just wondering what you all would do if you were me? Exhaust, Power, low smoke, and somewhat safe on engine and trans. There is alot I don't know so take it easy on me.

Thanks Boo:confused:

Exhaust, PPE tuner, and a Trango JR IMO. Now if your not so worried about the warranty there are a few other mods I would do to.

You first need to decide how you are going to use the truck in real life, and what is important to you.

EFILive with the right tuning will get the biggest power and quickest ET's (more feet at the pulls). Downside, it's a pretty advanced tool. Not for those who want a quick fix.

Handhelds, especially the PPE Hot +2 series, will get you nearly as far as custom EFILive tuning, and are simple to use for beginners.

Harness boxes, like Banks and Edge, are the simplest, and are still very powerful.

What all do you do with the PPE hot+2 series. Can you get ride of the DPF and other emissions bs so my milage my increase. Its does pretty good as it is 17-18 on the highway but if it can be improved why not.
In reality I don't see myself going to the track or entering in a truck pull. I would however like to beable to had out a good old a** kicken when need be.
Another question do you have to drill and tap your manifold with PPE for your egt's or do they have an option like Banks with there PDA where you don't have to, it does it electronically through there harness.

PPE can disable the DPF. The PPE just down loads the tune in your trucks ECM it doesn't get mounted in the truck. Like banks, edge ETC that are harness boxes and stay there and give read outs of boost ETC. Its very wise to get a independent boost and pyro gauge for tuners that don't have them.

Yup... PPE can disable the DPF. The Hot 2+ET is expensive at almost $1000, but has all kinds of options, diagnostic features, and of course the RACE version gets rid of the DPF correctly.

If you are interested I have 1 new in box PPE tuner left, it is the HOT (not HOT 2) RACE version, meaning it WILL delete the DPF, and a max of 300 extra HP with the tuner in its highest setting. Ive got 1 left at a special price of $625 shipped, and without sounding like a salesman, I would take it. If you arent fully dedicated to logging and "scanning" the truck with EFI live, learning how things work and how to create tunes then EFI is not for you.

PPE has a great variety of tunes from a stock/milage tune to tow tunes to a race tune if you want to have some fun on the weekend :D And they are all simple to change.

Id also recommend the standard tie rod sleeves, pitman/idler arm braces and a boost/EGT gauge if you want to have some safe, reliable fun :D

And, nice choice on the LMM ;)

Heheheh I get that at work all day - gotta check with the CEO/Boss/Accountant/Pants Wearer

Can that be run with stock exhaust or do I need to get one right away. I seen that there is a package deal on quadzilla stealth 2 and mbrp 4" exhaust with the dpf delete. Which is better?

No problem with stock exhaust, there are tunes for both DPF and non DPF delete.

Unfortunately the tuner D-max Joe is selling does not have the DPF delete option.

you could always do efi and just have a vendor supply you with a few tunes of your specifications. gauges and exhaust are recommended, im the type of guy who likes to know what my truck is doing.;)

The PPE Hot Race is only good for DPF delete on the LMM trucks, so no, you can't run it with a stock exhaust. You would have to go with EFILive, Edge EVO Race or Quadzilla Stealth 2 if you want the option. They will work with and w/o a delete. McRat can help you with EFI Live, if you want any more information on the Edge or Quad stuff, give me a shout on the phone - 866-255-7212 and I can try to answer any question you might have.

Another thing to consider is that very soon EFI Live will be releasing DSP5 tuning for the LBZ and LMM trucks. This means EFI Live custom tuning that is also switch on the fly. Vendor/tuners like myself can write you DSP5 tunes with a wide variety of tunes on them including: tow, economy, smoke, and performance tunes from mild (375-400rwhp) and stock transmission safe up to 530+rwhp tunes for guys with a lift pump and built transmission. We can disable the EGR, delete the DPF, correct for tire size, remove the speed limiter, get rid of the hiss at idle that you'll hear once you upgrade your exhaust, and you will never outgrow EFI Live. If you decide 2 years from now you want to build your trans and have more power you let us know and we send out a new tune. 2 years later you decide to upgrade your turbo, again let us know and we send you out a new tune for it.
