like the title says, I'm shopping laptops for EFI Live and am wondering what you've found works best, XP or Vista? Also how much space and hard drive do you recommend. Is more better or just a waste? Thanks!

Pat has had the best luck with XP. Actually it seems the cheap ones work just as good :D

How the little mini one working out Kat? Those are only a few hundred bucks.

He uses the mini one for flashing and data logging. But, uses the desktop or his bigger Dell laptop for actual tuning because of the bigger screen.

Anyone ever consider used??? I've been shopping craigslist and have found some pretty cheap. Did I mention I hate spending money on stuff like this??? I'd rather be buying trucks, turbos, tools, guns, etc......

It can be used. Just make sure the USB ports work.

I ended up going with a Dell refurb. 1 year warranty versus a 90 day with HP. quick shipping too,, 42 hours to my door for free. not feeling the vista home premium though,, how hard would it be to switch os to xp? thats what my desktop runs and i think it would be easier to transfer files and work back and forth if both had the same os.
sweet deal either way though, Intel core 2 duo 2.0ghz 5400rpm processor, 4gig/320gig, dvd burner, and a media card reader for under $600 shipped w/tax. runs pretty good so far. just got to figure out vista or go back to xp though.

I'm in the market for something similar. I'm on a borrowed pc now, thinking of buying a laptop for normal home use, and a mini to stay in the truck. For the mini, main use would be flashing and logging yet have the availability to surf the web, so I can email logs back and forth, that kinda thing, lol.
I was going to go with a new mini from Verizon with the built in wireless, but even though I just bought a blackberry and new line(that I now need to rid of) I'd have to pay full retail price which is $560 compared to $200.
Again as OP asked what is the minimum memory space needed to support efilive installation with different tunes, and still have room left? And able to surf?
I found a mini hp for under $600 with 1GB, but I feel that is too high.
Any idears?

website says efilive V1 and V2, for V7.5.5 build 88 is 81GB, but that's not including any files you save, logs you save or any other programs you have installed and the closer you have used up to the total available the slower pc will run.
Am I correct?

If it's just for EFI, I would go with an ACER mini. Quite a few people I know have them and of HP, Dell and ACER, the folks who own ACER are the happiest. Two buddies who own IT repair companies, have one of each and they both prefer the ACER as well.

I don't have any experience myself and don't know anyone running different brand minis, so I can't comment there.
