I am new to the diesel world and I'm looking to upgrade my truck. I just bought a 2008 chevy Southern Comfort with 62k miles. I'm looking for some extra MPG's and some extra HP. I have read a lot about the EFI tuner and how most people say it's the best tuner for the Duramax LMM. Does anybody know if there is anyone that sales this tuner close to Easley South Carolina? Also can I run this tuner with my stock exhaust? I read that anything over 100 extra HP will cause issue with my trans. Has anyone found this to be true?

Thanks

Sounds like you've done some homework...Yes, you can tune your truck while using stock exhaust and 100 HP is probably a good guess...Keep in mind some engines and transmissions can handle more than others...Take a look in our Vendor Section for EFILive tuners...Have fun...

Thanks for the reply. Let me ask another question. Sense I'm new to the diesel world and never done a tuner, should I look into a edge or PPE tuner. I can't seem to find a local shop for the efi live tuner and I'm a little worried about the efi being a little hard to grasp for a newbe like myself. I have worked on gas motors for a while but never got into the computers or tuners. Should I just be looking for a can tuner as far as just plug in and go? I have read some good things on the edge and PPE tuners. I don't have any extra Gage's to watch temps and I seen where the edge has a screen you can get that lets you watch different things to keep an eye on.

Take your time and wait for EFI, an Autocal works well with a known tuner and a number of them on this site. Me, I purchased a used V2 so I was not obligated to one tuner and can have my stock tune modified at any time by knowledgeable members here or other sites that are more than willing to help, just be careful.

I shopped, READ, asked ALOT OF questions for almost a year before making any tuning changes to my truck, cautious, yes these engines/transmissions are pricey not to mention the cost of small maintenance items. Have I changed my tune, yes, I limited it to dialing in the speedometer and that's it, good luck...

Go with efilive. 80/100hp tune is the max I would go with a stock transmission. Look into installing a trans go Jr and Mike L springs to help hold the power better. You can get an autocal with tunes on it and flash it on you truck yourself. The tuner does not have to be local. I have tunes from Atp. They are vendors on this forum and so is mike l.(Inglewood transmission) give them a call...

Thanks for the insight. I'm wanting better MPG's and a little more HP but not at the cost of hurting my Duramax or trans. That's why I'm trying to ask a lot of questions and read as much as possible.

Thanks. I will give them a call and get some goodies on order. I figure for the price I will go ahead and get the trans go jr on order as well. From what I have read it's not that hard to put in.
