I tried to warn him it was a bad idea when he first started doing it but he didn't listen.......so I am sure he found himself losing a lot of $$$$ because as The BAC stated there are a lot of dishonest people in the tuning industry who will steal tunes if they can.

mmm what goes around comes around. :)

Nick, aka Duramaxtuner, used to offer a tune library, you paid a subscription, you could access his tunes and use them, problem is at the time he was doing it there was no way to secure the tune file from copying, sharing, unauthorized selling, etc so anyone dishonest could take his work and resell it without his authorization..

To protect what I worked hard on I always locked my tunes but many didn't for their own reasons.

Think of Napster with record companies losing money from copied song tracks and shared songs and substitute it for tuning.

:roflmao:

Now almost every professional tuner locks all files and tags them as the original author, so if someone tries to sell a permission restricted file is shows up in the file properties as an original tune from a shop/tuner.

Ahhh I see...thanks for the explanation.

But if the os and options on the truck are the same that person could still install it on someone elses truck.
So it really doesn't matter people are gonna use other guys tunes. And they all end up really close in the end as far as fuel timing vanes etc.
If you want to be totally secured you gotta use sct. They lock the flash tuner to the tuner, the truck and the flash programmer. No way to copy open etc.

Yes and No,

I have the option to limit/restrict the tune to a specific ecm and a specific Autocal or V2........if they all don't match the file will not load on any other trucks ecm.

Also restrict the file from being viewed or modified.

In reality I set it up to work on one truck only..........;)

I don't know about you, but I don't like to work for free.

I know this is wrong but I put some out there I knew would get "stolen"

set up 100% vanes and stuff at 0 throttle, called it towing with turbo brake
then went in the max table and turned max to like 34%
"tuner" spent like 5 hours in front of a customer retuning it finally told guy he had a bad turbo.
It was great and as ben said earlier what goes around comes around.
All tuners have to do is leak flawed tunes and guys that don't have a clue or know enough to be dangerous, well they will be soon found out.
any thoughts?

And on locking it to the ecm, I like to just use stock copies of the guys os and run their vin through tis, so I canmake the pretuned autocals you know send them out with locked ctz's on them. So I guess I should be getting them to email stock file so I can fully lock it. Or will the tune not like the truck because of using a different ecm?
I have always done on site tuning or ecm exchange, but I just got some autocals in so this whole deal has really got me curious.

I honestly don't care what anyone else does as far as their tunes.........if they are foolish enough to leave them for the POS wanna be tuners to copy and resell it doesn't make a dam bit of difference to me.

I take every precaution I can and others don't.

I lock every file to an ECM/V2/ACV2 and restrict from viewing and modifying.

A V8.ctz tune read with V8 software populates the V2 serial number/license number as well as the ecm unique serial number.......all you need is in the tune file.

I also tag them in the properties tab as my intellectual property.

What are you looking for in a library type tune that you can't get from a full blown custom tune?

If you're worried about making changes to the truck and having to buy tuning, you could do as a few have done and take advantage of my Unlimited Custom Tuning option which basically adds you to a list of people, of whom I am essentially their personal tuner as long as they own that truck, regardless of number of changes or modifications.

Why would anyone want a sub par tune or a way to hot tune for your truck?????

Hey heres an idea lets take someone elses perscription drugs and see what happens?

IMO tunes need to be built for the truck owner as well as the truck.Thats why i pay for a professional to work his magic and make all my hard work come together and run at its optimum.Any tight ass wants to try and mess with tunes that werent made for his truck, well dont be surprized if something bad happens or if a guy that has less then you do kicks your ass at the track.:thumb: :2cents:

We have a local guy around here that was using hacked h&s files for his 6.7 tuning.. Recently had a local shop that uses him for tuning (they used to that is) and he quit answering the phone for them after he couldn't get this standard 6.7 to quit throwing lights. He loaded a freakin AUTO trans file on the standard and of coarse truck freaked out... They finally just brought the truck to our shop and I nearly rolled on the floor laughing when I pulled the file to see it wasn't even for that truck... Had all dtc still enabled, checksum invalid, you name it. It amazes me what some folks will do to make some dollars at the sacrifice of others hard earned vehicles!

Tony- had a customer recently come by the shop to get some work done, he was running your tuning. That's the first time I rode in a truck you tuned and it felt really nice! Keep up the good work!

Re: duramaxtuner no longer sells private label access, any other tuners offer similar

Nothing about dishonesty in diesel performance surprises me anymore. Whatever happened to integrity and honesty in people?

What goes around comes around. They dont last long generally as they are found and called out. Online and with tuning it is a different story though. Takes longer to fail. Word of mouth does spread though. Locally and on the interweb.

I gave up trying to tune anybody elses trucks a long time ago. I just use good tuners and act as the middle man.
