I am currently in the process of putting a LBZ into my 01 Tacoma (already has a solid axle swap). My problem is the engine is to tall, I'm at about 4inches over stock height but only have about half inch of up travel between axle and upper oil pan. Does anyone know if there are differences between oil pans of any duramax models?

Kodiak/Medium Duty Pans have the sump in the front of the engine instead of the back. Not sure if that will help your situation though.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the oil pan from a Kodiak/med duty engine, height of upper, lower, then length of lower?

Just found some info and it seems like the med duty pans will be too deep and will actually make the problem worse. I'm thinking about just welding on a bottom section to the current upper pan and just leaving the lower pan off completely. I'll be short 4-5 qrts oil maybe more, does anyone think this will cause me any problems?

yes it will, specially on a down hill slope. your gunna have to run a dry sump system to get what your after.

Took some pics before I did a little cutting and adjusting I have about 3 inches of clearance now. I think the Kodiak pan may work now after I did a little more thinking, gotta get the measurements before I do anything else. Dry sump would make it easy, but the ones I could find were like 1k-2k. I would rather cut the trans tunnel before dropping that amount of cash.

Impressed, I remember putting a vette 350 in my buddies 4runner, no kit, all backyard engineering, we had it all set up, lifted the motor to tack the mounts we fabbed. didnt mark where the mounts should go (too many beers). Then, possibly too many rums (ok way too many) but someone (I think me) decided they could just eyeball it, set the body back on later 2" too far forward! Finnished the bottle and cut her apart the next day nursing a headache :( So Good work on keeping her on track! Keep us posted!

Thanks for the support everyone, this is my first diesel so I look forward to learning a lot from you all. I am located in St. Paul, MN if anyone wants to come give me a hand , at the moment I'm working solo I weigh about 140lbs and the motor/trans are 1k plus pounds = slow.
Anyway I didn't get a chance to work on it today and wont be at least till parts for the motormounts come in. I think an additional 1 inch body + 1 inch suspension lift for total clearance of 4.5-5 inches should be good? (opinions please) Also I was doing some research about swapping in a 480le does anyone know what I would need to accomplish this? I would rather not add anymore lift or maybe even drop it a bit if this option is not too hard. My last question is for you folks in the northern regions, I plan on replacing the intake pipe were the grid heater is, it's to high and wont clear the hood. I have heard that the grid heater is for emissions only and does not aid in cold start, is that true?

4l80E 06 and new vans run dmax/4l80 setup since my 99 CK truck runs a 4l80 i went with the the van for simplicity. tranny wise the only thing i had to was get the NSBU switch for the 06 vs the 99. any GM tranny will bolt to the Dmax th350/400 need the big bolt patter convertors. that would make it easy for the 203/205 etc t-cases

btw van HP rateing is 250/460 in 06 vs 365/650 for the truck.
grid heater is for emission and extreme cold... i took mine off and will be turning it off with efi live
