I wanted to use Arias, and was gonna.... But he wants to be able to tow, and I don't think u can because of the lack of the oil passage for the piston oilers.

The Arias are a lot more reasonable than some other options...

If only they were were out now. Don't want to buy forged and replace rings ever 20k miles but already cracked cut and coated cast pistons.

From looking through other threads an LBZ rod and piston weigh about 2171g. Carillos with the monotherms weigh about 2136g. I just used Guy's piston weights and went looking for the rod weights. Does this sound about right?

I haven't received the wrist pins for the Monotherms yet. They are out being DLC coated. They will be shorter in length than a normal pin. My best calculation puts them approx. 100 grams lighter than a normal pin.

Hell, I'll never be in a position to ever use these pistons, but its nice that they are an option for the guys that are. :thumb: Even better that it got Guy to post here again....been a long while since we heard from you.

Any word on how theyve been holding up in the cummins? I heard one truck running them had some sort of a catastrophic failure at Scheids. I watched it pull, and afterwards it had a miss, oil blowing out between the hood and fenders, and a shit load of blow bye.......... Sure seemed like symptoms of a piston, but of course no one said what it actually was.

Pistons

I hope theres no problem with that short skirt and all the weight being high in the piston. I would think it would be hard on the block when the piston goes over TDC. The do look good! Jeff

I just got back from PRI in Orlando and found that the wrist pins had finally arrived for the Monotherms. Now we can get this test motor assembled and start beating it to death.

Special thanks to whomever passed along their sinus infection/cold to me during the trip. Spent the last week on drugs trying to become human again. :(

A couple of observations:

1) The pins are shorter in length than the normal DMAX pin.
2) The pins are coated with DLC.

The total weight of the rings, piston, pins, clips etc. will put us approx. 180 grams heavier than a comparable bore size, compression ratio, Mahle forged aluminum piston.

Using a set of Carrillo rods this test engine will have a bobweight of 3380 grams. For comparison sake, a stock LB7 is 3400 grams. Stock LBZ is 3500 grams.

Stay tuned............:thumb:
