Unfortunately the Olds 5.7 diesel suffered from the same problem that the Chevy Corvair did. Bad mechanics who were not trained to work on these new cars and screwed them up pretty bad. They caused most of the problems. Most of you guys just read shit and take it as gospel but I was there in the pits in the early days. I saw it all. I was one of them.

And don't forget how the owners of them didn't understand diesels and did ALOT of damage by getting on em cold, shutting em down hot, and running gasser engine oil and sludging up. Theres still some left that are decent engines for what they were designed to be if you run them like they were meant to be run.

My first car was a 1980 Pontiac Bonneville with the old 5.7... had over 200k and never had any problems with it :shrug:. Wasn't too fast but got like 30MPG

Had a oldsmobile 4 door diesel in high school. Wasn't fast but made good miliage and rolled coal at wide open. Never missed a bet and drove good with new shocks on the front. Kinda wish I still had it to drive to work got alot better miliage than the D-max
