Well here are some begining shots . This will not be a show piece but I will dress it up some . and this will be a painfully slow build .

Well progress is going slow have been busy but the cab is stripped to the firewall now have to decide how much of the 06 I am going to use . I am thinking about making a custom dash and using the cluster out of the 06 as well as the HVAC and dual controls . Also need to decide if to run a vacume pump or run the hydaboost brake system . I am removeing the egr completely and modding the turbo up pipe . Pass key is something i will have to deal with and with both of those items I guess I will need efi live as funds become available . Since this will see very limited towing I am concerned with cooling and will I be able to get away with electric fans . Also have to figure out what radiator to run the 06 was damage in the accident and the intercooler is twisted but still sealed . Don't believe I will trust it . So I have much to decide and deal with. I will start making a blank fire wall and trial fit sone in the Elky .

definitely invest in EFILive to delete the pass-lock security stuff. It is also necessary to delete codes for loss of body communications, EGR, etc... that will turn up with a swap like this.

Keep the hydroboost!!! There is no reason to run vacuum brakes on this; adding a vacuum pump is a PITA, adds lots of extra complicated stuff, takes up more space in the engine compartment, and a hydroboost setup gives much stronger braking IMO.

you will be fine with getting rid of the stock mechanical fan and just running electric fans in my own opinion...

A very inexpensive pack of resistors from radioshack can get around the PASSLOCK system if you transfer the BCM over. If you're going to transfer the cluster then you will need the BCM to make it work with the CANBUS system IIRC. EFILIVE should be a priority for any engine swap with a DURAMAX as you WILL run into things that will need to be tuned out to get it to run smoothly in your transplant.

Thanks for the info efi is first on my list as budget allows selling older projects and trucks to pay for this .

But I have a stupid question what does IIRC stand for?

For the intercooler you can purchase pre made cores and end tanks and TIG them together to create your own for a decent price even if you have somebody else weld them up, which I highly suggest doing if you do not have very good Aluminum TIG skills. This allows you to create an efficient intercooler that fits in your space requirements.

I am going to start seelling parts of the donor cab and chassis dually cab rearend dual fuel tanks doors seat etc. Flat bed might be available as well for local pick up along with the before mentioned parts.

My neighbor built his own el camino out of a woody station wagon. He simply cut the back stuff out , put in a plywood bed floor with a bed liner, and then a sheet of plywood for the back cab panel with a window from a screen door.

He also put in a 5th wheel for his camper that he lives in.
