I keep trying to talk my uncle into doing exactly this. He has a gorgeous 1997 F350 with the 7.3, but the 7.3 just won't die. If/when it does, he will probably go for it.
I really like the way the older Fords looked.

Destroked is a business. You could always ask around with local shops, because a good shop would be capable of doing the swap as well.

Any of them. Most parts inner change with each other.
LB7- no emissions really to speak of, but injectors are under the valve cover and they last about a 100K ish. Best stock pistons
LLY- Just a EGR. Same pistons as LB7. External injectors, easier to R&R.
LBZ- EGR, Stronger rods than the previous engine but not that much stronger
, Pistons are a crap shoot if they will crack or not, arguably the best performing engine for the least amount of effort.
LMM- same as the LBZ engine, first year for DPF
LML- same overall package externally but got internal revisions, CP4 fuel pump is crap.

Destroked is the one who makes a harness, and uses the pcs xfc box to allow the allison 03-05 tcm work in most anything. They will be of NO help what so ever in swapping a duramax/allison combo into anything. I called them and they told me that I had to make my allison stand alone to work as a swap even though it's behind a duramax.
