im sure this has been asked before, but i cant find it.

so im currently building my trans with a limitless kit and converter, and plan on running decent power with a dsp 5 switch, so i can have say a enhanced, economy, towing, race/maxeffort and a custom tune.

with the built trans, will i hurt it if i was to say go from enhanced to race tune at a set of lights and feed it. ?

or is it one of thos things where you have to drive around for a bit or do a trans relearn ? as im getting tunes made to suit the engine mods and also tcm tunning does that normally mean the trans changes tunes when the dsp5 changes ?

sorry if its a stupid question i just dont want to go fry my trans

I would run it around for a day or two on tune 2-3 and drive it a day or two on the big tune or it’ll most likely go dumb going from a stock tune to a big tune and running wfo. Both of mine flared shifts and banged going from a stock tune to a big tune right out of the shop until the tcm had a minute to learn

ah sweet was worried it might not like it, why do you say don't use trans tuning ?

Most tcm tunes do more harm than good, especially with a built trans. Only thing you might need changed are shift points and converter lockup depending on turbo setup.

It depends on how the tuning is. You really want to let the tranny adjust to the lower difference first when going up in power. Going down in power will not hurt it.

Really the best thing you can do is lower the threshold at which the transmission wants to downshift in 5th or 6th gear if you have a 6th gear. All of our LBZ's and up, take so long to decide to downshift and then get back to making power, it painful waiting for power on a stock TCM tune in those trucks.

That's why you leave the tcm tune alone and make the power in the ecm more digressive from 50mm3 to 80mm3.
