I tried installing a DSP 5 switch on my Buds 05 LLY.

Just couldnt get the pins to seat correctly in the harness, when i thought i got them, the switch still wouldnt work.

Tried and tried, still no success.:(

So i took the ECM connector apart to "pull" them in farther to seat, still didnt help and i ended up smashing them with needle nose plyers so i need 2 more crimp on pins. Then the damn truck wouldnt start si i fiddled with the connector till it did, TALK ABOUT FRUSTRATING!!!!:mad:

What the heck am i doing wrong?

These things should just " snap in" right?

I got the wrong switch the first time and broke the pins trying to get them in. When I got the right pins it was still a PITA. I kind of twisted the wire a bit while pushing and they went. Still pretty hard.

I got the pins at the GM dealer. You definetly need to have one to compare too. There are tons of pins that look close. They had a plastic tray with 50+ different pins. I found the ones I needed and they gave them to me. I would imagine that they would be able to find a part # for the correct pins.

If you mean the blue plugs in the factory ECM plug for the Pin out location then yes, I pulled them out so i could stick the new pins in.

I dont think that is what he was asking? There is a long blue clip that locks all the pins in place..

did you set the voltages for each position per instructions for the switch?? maybe that is the problem and not the switch seating? just a thought tim. also, use some dielectric grease to help the pins slide in.

i had the same problem on my lbz with the ecm connector, i think there were two pin holders and they didn't jump right out at me. after hours (and i mean hours) of trying to get them in i finally re-read the instuctions and got those little pin retainers out and they clicked right in :) just remeber to put the retainer back in one you're done!

I'll have to double check that pin lock you guys are talking about, actually its Probably broke now:(

Why are these such a pain in the ass?

on my 04 Z71 I added Efans and had to insert a Pin in the computer, it went in no problem. I like the gasser computer plugs ALOT BETTER than the LLY ones. They came apart EASY, and every pin was numbered.

Not Sure Todd, I just thought since i had the tune installed once i hooked up the switch it would work.

I'll have to check efi live .com i guess.

the voltages should be default with enough differance to work. the ecm connector has 2 blue pin locks that slide in and out fron the side of the connector body. they act as a pin lock and a pin position assurance. basically it lines the pins up so they are all the same depth in the connector body, and so when you plug it back in, the pins all stay put. you would no if you took them out or not. kinda PIA to pop em in. the pins themselves are truly a PIA. i went through 3 before i got mine to go in, but my buds was one shot and done.

It's actually one piece, and it's really there for insurance. The connector has clips built in that hold the pins in place, and it's really hard, if not impossible, to get the pins out without a small paperclip to push in the retaining clip.

Tim, if you look at the end of the connector, you'll see a rectangular hole, and a light blue piece in it against the center of the connector. you can pop it out with a paperclip or small screwdriver.
