I thought I understood this dsp 5 thing. But I guess not. So under custom os it shows 1,2,3,4. I was thinking that your base tune, the one you set in the engine controls was your actual number one such meant all the tunes moved down one spot, 1 is 2, 2 is 3, and so on. But am I correct in that? Or do I set my dsp1 as stock, and set the engine controls to my extreme tune?

So I set my stock tune to the engine controls and we call that tune 0 or first position on the switch?

I'm trying to make the first position be my stock tune

That is how you would do it. Depending on how extreme your higher tunes are, some limiters are only in the base tune, so you need to set them to accommodate your highest tune. Basically, if a table isn't in the DSP section, it always uses the base table.

Now your really going to get confused...... there are 2 different switches. They switch tunes in opposite directions. If you use SoCal dsp switches, they identify them as White zip tie or Black zip tie.

White, you would use as described above..... base tune as your smallest, then progressively bigger to dsp4.

Black zip tie, build your biggest tune in the base then progressively smaller and leaving the tables stock in dsp 4. And once installed the dial will Work just like the white zip one.

If you watch the dsp pid in your scan tool you can see it change tunes from non dsp to dsp1,2,3,4 etc......

Hopefully this helps.

That's only if you want to turn the switch right for more power. I would not sugest most guys make the non DSP the race tune. If anything happens it will default into the non DSP, so you would be stuck in your race tune.

Ok I got it thanks guys. Dozer boy so your suggesting to make 5 stock and turn left for power increases.

Trippin scripts is an amazing thing. Idk who put that all together but damn that's cool

I feel the stock tune should be the base. If its going to be a problem for you to remember which way to turn the switch for more power go the other way. Just remember IF something where to happen you would be stuck on your big tune. That might be a very big IF. I can't say I've ever heard of that happening.

Well got it put together and loaded, but I messed up some where. Tune 1 works perfect. Tune 2 thro 5 instantly go 97 % vpos then soon as you give it gas it sets over boost code and goes to 0% vpos. The five tunes ran good on truck individually, but not on dsp. Looked through the tune twice and haven't done it why yet. Going to try again tonight's just wondering if anyone has ran into this before

I had to search I didn't even know Guy made a script file that would write DSP5s. Im not sure what the issues might be.

It made it very easy.

Been through every single calibration and can't figure out the issue. D

Unfortunately, anyone out there with a max effort dsp5 setup is not setup this way for exactly the reasons Dave posted. You will start limiting your race tune a decent amount unless it’s the base tune and really, it’s not that big of deal if you get stuck on it. Stay out of the throttle if your in 5/6th gear and watch your egt gauge if your towing.

Personally, I wouldn’t even run a dsp5 on a stock trans truck. I’d just use a dsp2 and only then, power wouldn’t vary much but id like to have that change from turbo brake or not.

OP, go over all the boost tables with a fine tooth comb a few times. If you still can’t figure it out, post the tune up
