Not too familiar with DSP tuning, so if you can answer me this, it would be helpful.....

Are tunes made for DSP the same as individual tunes? In other words, can I take my Race tune, which works so well in my truck, and turn it into a DSP tune and it'll work exactly the same?

If so, how do I go about changing things? If not, how do I make something relatively close to what I have?

The DSP "child" tunes have only a limited # of tables to edit.

For racing:

You put your "Full Race" tune in the main, then the special programs in the child slots.

This way all the removal of limiting tables applies everywhere.

Sure you can put a "detuned" race version in the main, but if you have switch problems you're going to run slow.

Open your race tune, click upgrade OS and it will give you the option for DSP2 or 5. Then after that you will have unpopulated DSP tables. You can then populate those tables with say one of your favorite tow tunes. Guy used to have some pre made scripts on his website that I have used forever to populate DSP tables with other tunes.

I was just thinking of using a DSP2 and go from my stock tune to my race tune. I really have no use for anything else in between. :)

I will give your suggestions a try. Thanks.

x2. Personally I dont understand why people "need" 5-position switchable tuning.

If you spend a lot of time refining the tune and have experience tuning, you really dont need more than two tunes.

I only have DSP2 on my truck and have no intention of putting DSP5 on it. I have my all out race tune, and then I have a second tune that is fast enough to be more than enough fun on the street, but doesnt smoke, spools quick, gets good fuel economy, and can tow heavy while keeping EGT's in check.

Pretty much the same here. I have a daily driver tune that is fairly responsive in the throttle and then a small tow tune for when the roads are slippery or I'm towing heavy. I've read of to many people who put in a DSP 5 and switch from there small tune to a big tune and limp even a built ALLISON from the drastic change in power without letting it adapt, not me. 2 will do.

I have 5 tunes, but I always use my race tune for everything.. I have heard that you may slow alittle with the use of a DSP. Don't know why and not everyone seems to agree but it seems possible that something could be affected. Never experienced that, because I've only used DSP files, but If I was going for a fastttt truck, I would run a single tune.

Me either. I only wanted a 2 position but all I heard about when I bought mine was a 5 pos. All I need is my full on tune and one about 100 horse less
to tow with

Here's the thing.

The difference in a 50HP tune and a 250HP tune is just pedal position. A good race tune gets good mileage, and runs well at 1/2 throttle. It's not like a gasser. You can have your cake and eat it too if you have an "educated" right foot and an EGT gauge.

I run a single tune, no DSP2 or 5. I build my own tunes and like to set them up for low smoke and 100-150hp increase up to 75% throttle or so. After 75% it's wide open dump as much fuel as possible:woott:......works good IMO, but I only have to please myself:rofl:.....:thumb:

I still think the dsp 2 is nice for when the mood strikes to beat on the truck a little it doesnt have to be done on the max effort race tune but if needed its still a click away.

Because not everyone is happy with two and not everyone can write more than two..........

Seriously though, two in my opinion is not enough and here is why.

1) Some want a VALET or Dead Pedal Tune, DSP2 won't work as then they have only one tune then

2) Smoke Tune, again it is not a daily driver tune it is a specific use tune

3) Lope Tune

4) Tow Tune for heavy load and light loads, what do you do for a Race or Sled Puller if you need two tow tunes.

5) Emissions test, some people need a stock tune, especially in CA

Does that clear up the DSP5 need that you don't get ??? Think beyond what you need and think like your customer.

;)

CA smog is nothing. Seriously. Blue passed with a max race tune loaded.

Personally, I have no need for smoke, valet, or lope tunes.

But sometimes I DO need a DSP5 tune:

1) Tune that craps out at 2000rpm so I can remember what it was like before shimming PRV's.

2) Tune that idles like crap and blows white smoke, so I can pretend I have an LB7 with bad injectors.

3) Tune that passes CA emissions (aka - any race tune written in the last 5 years).

4) Tune for letting people drive my truck that shouldn't. This has zero'd out throttle position table.

5) Tune that billows out black smoke for no reason, so I can fit in with the Dodge Boys who think smoke == power.

thats the real reason. :D :p:

1) Some want a VALET or Dead Pedal Tune, DSP2 won't work as then they have only one tune then

run the PTO enable pin to a hidden toggle switch. Theres your "valet" tune. ;)

2) Smoke Tune, again it is not a daily driver tune it is a specific use tune

useless IMO

3) Lope Tune

even more useless IMO.

4) Tow Tune for heavy load and light loads, what do you do for a Race or Sled Puller if you need two tow tunes.

I dont sled pull, and if I really need 2 different race tunes I can reflash the truck in 50 seconds.

5) Emissions test, some people need a stock tune, especially in CA

I dont live in california. I passed CT emissions with a decent tune in my truck. And even if I did need a "zero smoke tune" for emissions, I only have emissions testing once every couple of years, so its not a big deal to reflash the tune just for an emissions test.

Does that clear up the DSP5 need that you don't get ??? Think beyond what you need and think like your customer

customers want DSP5, so thats what I flash their trucks with, just because "more is better and more fun", all I said was "personally, in my opinion, on my truck" I have no use/need for DSP5, two tunes is just fine for me. :)
