Well while i was on the tug boat the wife took my truck to a shop and had the tie rod sleeves put on and pitman/idler arm support brackets put on along with airbags.... and brought it back home 30 miles... and that is were it sat till i got home... something did not feel right driving it...alot of slack in the front end..and i figured well maby it needs a front end alignment.... so i stop at a shop 30 miles in the opposite direction of the first shop to do a front end alignment....as the first shop could not do it/did not have the tools/machine to do it..

the feller comes to me and says my tie rod is bad...... Wait a minute i just had sleeves put on and the truck has only been drove 60 miles...??? so i go see for myself and he said the nut was hand tight... i was able to wiggle the tie rod and tighten the nut with my hand...Oh crap.....

That means the first shop did not tighten the nut... and if it was bad before did not notice it was bad..... either way we could of got Killed...or killed several other people.... as today we were supposed to pick up our 40ft 5th wheel from the shop and bring home 120 miles away.....

so now i just ordered 2 outer tie rod ends..not taking any chance on the other 1 going out.. and will let the 2nd shop fix it and do a front end alignment..

Will go to first shop and tell them and make them pay for the fix.....

Either way we are very lucky it was caught before today.... Truck only has 67,500 miles on it... 08 and never have done any 4wheel launches.... have smoked the back a few times....lol

well i guess my question is, how does the shop that was doin the alignment know the tie rod was bad if the nut was loose? did they tighten the nut up and then check for play in the socket of the tie rod?

hate to say it but good luck gettin the other shop to pay now. Unless the tech admits to you he thinks he left it loose, the shop can just say "well how do we know the new shop didnt do that". not sayin they aint in the wrong but in todays economy and knowing auto repair shops aint makin as much as they use to, ill bet they will try to hang all the money they can.

i do understand where your comin from though. we had a block fall out of the rear of my moms 98 lifted 3500 backing out of the driveway jsut after hauling our 40ft weekend worrier toy hauler on a 4 hour trip. dad was pissed and scared at the same time thinking what could have happened if it did that with the trailer on. Fly-n-hi had forgot to put the u-bolt keeper on top of the springs and did not tighten the u-bolts fully. this was 6 months after the lift and Fly-n-hi basically told my dad to shove it. that didnt go over so well but we jsut gave up tryin to get them to pay and paid out of pocket.

yes cause i was out there and seen it and put my hands on it before and after tightening it up it still would wobble.... either way it is done now.... and boy the front end feels good and tight now... whether the 1st shop pays anything they will know they could of killed us.
