Drain coolant

How do I get to the radiator drain plug. I want to drain my coolant on a 2006 lly duramax

Not sure if your truck would have the drain or not. If it does it would be on the bottom passenger side corner. If not you just have to pull the lower hose on the bottom passenger side.

Keep the overflow cap on.

Try to find a wide tube (PVC?) to put the end of the hose into right from when you pull it loose to help guide the fluid into the pail. I used one of the I/C pipes.

5 gallon bucket right underneath. Hardly lose any coolant.

I like my big black concrete trough to cover the largest area and probably holds 7-8 gallons.

Next coolant drain this is going in, Home Depot has some mortar mixing tubs 6" in height and 20"x28"..

Anyone try tapping a hole for a drain? A 1/4 npt air compressor drain would work?

Guess you don't need to do it often enough to make it worth while though.

Nice... I was thinking of having one made but I found one online. It is made specifically for the Duramax. I ordered one and have received it. I haven't had a chance to install it yet. When I do, I'll report back.

It looks pretty nice. It is made of stainless steel. The drain plug looks like a common GM engine oil drain plug available at napa if it strips out.

What about adding a tee into the small house running under the main? You could cap it when not draining.

X3. Just used one when I did the water pump. Catches 95% ....Just not the stuff that sneaks down the block/lines/skidplates/etc

I got the one from Mfr. Used it during a coolant flush. The constant removing of the plug caused it to start leaking. I i installed a fumuto valve where the plug used to be. I might ad them to the sides of the block too but I haven't decided just yet.

Easy peasy draining now.
