I am about to tear down my truck and before i do im just wondering what other people have done to save themselves time.. Also if anyone has ideas on the best parts to use i plan on building the truck id like to see 650 hp so i plan on running arp studs and i have been told many different things as far as gaskets and would kind of like to know what others have used. i am also planning on doing the water pump and thermostats and changing the coolant jug and cap just to be safe. if anyone has any suggestions i would really appreciate it thanks

Definitely have a machine shop mic the heads for any warp. If they take any material off, just plan on grade "C" gaskets from GM, most people here do that with good success. The rest of what you're changing is what I did on mine, along with some misc coolant lines that looked bad. ARP studs as well.

Shooting for 650rwhp on your stock bottom end is gonna be borrowed time, depending on your tuning. That things liable to shit a rod out the block or shorten a few of them. 650 flywheel might live a little longer... unless you got a Wednesday truck, there is a few of them out there surviving 700+rwhp on stock guts.

get a head gasket kit with studs & other parts from Creatures of the night performance
have the heads checked by a shop
buy a box of quart & gallon zip locks for parts, take a lot of pictures from before you start all the way thru disassembly

You may want to get a straight edge and check the deck on the block as well

Make sure the gaskets are the right ones on the right sides, they are marked. If they are installed wrong issues will arise.

Find a lift and pull the cab.

Dont put the headgaskets upside down. If you hear a squeeky noise afterwards, that may be your issue.

Its pretty straightforward. Most stuff will only fit in one spot. Good luck.
