My dad has a 2014 or 15 dodge. He has had check engine lights coming on since he bought it new. He would take it in and they would tell him they flashed it with a new cal. 1-2 weeks later it would come back on and he would repeat the process. The truck still runs fine so he wasn't to worried about it. Well now his truck is out of the mileage warranty and he took it in a while back and they told him the cat is bad and want a lot of money for a new one.
I told him thats probably been the problem the whole time and to track down his paperwork and go stick up the dealers ass to show them they never fixed the problem to begin with. Well he made a few phone calls and never got anywhere with it so he has given up on that route.
Now to my question. Hypothetically could the cat be gutted and then the tune changed to delete the cat with out deleting anything else.
He doesn't want to buy a new cat but he also doesn't want to delete anything else because he doesn't want to deal with it when it comes time for safety and emissions.
I know its a dodge question but this is pretty much the only forum I get on anymore and I know there is some guys and some tuners on here that deal with dodge stuff.
Thanks for any help.

Is this a gas or a diesel? If it is a gas model just buy a new aftermarket cat and replace the old one. What are the codes when the check engine light comes on? Are they the same every time since he has owned it? You can try lemon law if the same occurrence has not been fixed after 3 attempts.

I don't really see a reason why it would be bad already it's a new truck, how many miles? I haven't been around them enough but is there a exhaust injector for fuel? When they go bad there is not enough fuel injected into the exhaust during a regen to get up to burn off temp we need some codes if you can get them.

I think he is at around 90,000 miles. Im not sure on the coeds I dont have a way to read it but the dealer told him it was bad. He has been driving it for a while now with the problem and hasnt had any problems until recently his fuel millage has gone in the crapper. I would guess the regens are working or the dpf would have plugged up by now.

I've heard of fca pulling this kinda bullshit for a long while now they use the reflash excuse alot.
Swear they make a new calibration every 2 weeks to save on warranty claims. Anyways I would request what code was popping up all the time. My guess is p0420

That would be nice if there is. Anyone know if this is true. He is going to have the codes checked this week.

My work truck is a 2013 Ram5500 and the regen too often code is almost always on, been that way since 15k or so. I've got 230k on it. Doesn't effect the way it runs or the fuel economy as far as I can tell. It's just annoying.

Oh and truck is 100% stock and spends 1/2 it's time loaded between 18.5k and 19.5k, and is run HARD all the time.

If he has less than 100k on the truck the CAT is still under warranty. 10 year 100k is a federal warranty requirment.
