Yes I did search...

I'm finally getting around to swapping the LBZ into my 03. My 03 is a 4wd and the doner truck is a 2WD. I've read on here about swapping the VB, NSBU and harness from a 6speed into a 5speed and it becomes a 6speed. Is that right? I'm trying to decide the best route to go here.

Make the 4wd 5speed into a 6speed

or

Make the 2WD 6speed into a 4WD

I'm also looking for a good deal on a 6speed 4WD....

Just swap the tail housing with the output shaft from the 5 speed onto the 6 speed.

That being the case, you could probably swap the valve body, but I don't know what (if anything) is done to the 6-speed valve body during a SunCoast upgrade. You'd probably have to get that done before swapping it in, or you'd be taking a step backwards. Mike will know for sure.

IIRC Mike also said a built 6-speed is stronger than a built 5-speed, so you might want to look into some way of swapping your kit parts into the 6-speed, then getting the rest of the parts/work (if any) to finish it off. Just a thought.

I suggest you call Mike L and discuss the swap-- the two operating systems are completely different-- I think you are going to need a lot of help to make this work!

I think it would be easier to use the 6 speed, with the LBZ, and the LBZ computers and harness.

Yes you can use the 6 speed valve body with harness and mode switch and make a 5 speed into a 6 speed if you use an LBZ ECM and TCM with harness. I would rather use the 6 speed trans and sell the SC.

If you're gonna try the 6 speed VB on 5 speed trans also--MAKE SURE you get an 06 selector shaft (PN 29542696) in order to make the internal mode switch work.

You're killing me Mike. I mean it there a differnce between the 2wd and 4wd on the TCM program.

Mike may have been referring to 5speed vs 6speed programming, which of course is WAAAY different. 2wd vs 4wd I don't THINK is different, but if you're concerned, I could flash a 4wd cal into it if you'd like.

Hell I don't know. I've owned this truck eight years now and drove it 422K so far and have yet to use 4lo, so it real doesn't matter that much. At some point I'll get I flashed.
