Do dual CP3's need to be the same size pump?

I replaced my stock CP3 with an II mod CP3 because the regulator went out on the stocker LB7.

Because of the way I got the II, I still have my old pump with a bad regulator. I am a no-pump kit away from dual CP3's if I replace the regulator on the old pump.

Can I run the higher volume pump in the valley with the old pump belt driven? Do the dual CP3's need to be a matched set of pumps?

To be honest, I am not sure how much life is left in the old pump, it had about 130k miles on it when the regulator quit (one of the reasons for replacing the whole thing). Is there a way to see if the pump is OK?

I was just thinking that I could get into dual CP3's pretty cheaply.

The electronics that go with the kit won't be able to account for the added flow of the II pump will it ?

Most of what Ive seen people say is its not an issue, or at least hasnt created any type of failure that could be associated with it.

No personal experience though, sorry. I was planning on running a WD regulator with stock in my dual PPE CP3 setup, but they are both now stock.

I might be modding one of my pumps then eventually both , The worst case scenerio is you get too much fuel VS commanded and make more " Powa "

If you already have the truck tuned for the II pump and it idles fine and everything then it will do just fine with the smaller pump in the dual position. I am running a stock LBZ CP3 in the valley with an LLY CP3 with modded gearbox and LBZ regulator. Many others have run LB7/LLY with LBZ combos with no problems.

I have no problems with the idle, Pat did the tuning. The II in the valley was one of his old test units.

I was thinking of getting a WD FPR for the old pump if I decide to do the dual CP3's.

That would be great if I can get the $$ together for the install kit...:(

But.....my bride is still quivering over the new turbo that is getting installed over this weekend. The turbo box in the living room is a constant reminder right now.:D

So I can break $hit faster......that always goes over well:dancenana:

But she did think it was kind of funny when I blew a Ford away last summer on a hill....He was surprised to see me pass him going up the long 6% grade....I wish I could have seen his face when he noticed I was towing my Airstream at the time:driving:

An install kit is about $1800 without the pump. Now for a good excuse.....

"That CP3 is taking up valuable shop space and would be out of the way under the hood."

"2 is better than 1"

"It's gonna happen eventually anyway"

"Now that I have the turbo my truck will be starving for fuel, it needs the dual CP3's to run to this turbo's potential"

Thanx, I needed that.

Unfortunately, she is pretty immune to those already...I kind of wore out those reasons when I was racing snowmobiles....dangit, I should have saved them for the truck...:D who knew:dontknow:

I used the last one on my wife. Losing rail pressure at the track but it turned out that I had bad lift pumps also. I put dual cp3's on before I really decided to check the lift pumps:rofl:
