Do 2nd Gear Launches Help?

Just an FYI I take Wendy up to 2800 rpm just barley trip the 2nd staging light and then put the pedal to the floor just as the lights go off.

I also run don't run in tow/haul so the convert. will lock later.

That is what works for me.

I will admit I probably lost a race because I got lined up against 18 sec. truck and didn't want to be on the convert. for 6 plus seconds:baby:

Many trucks have changed nothing but 1st delete at the track, and dropped a couple tenths. But others have seen no effect. Not sure why, but I can venture a guess. To make the 2nd gear launch effective, you need to launch at 2500rpm or higher. Sometimes 3000. Not everyone can or will launch that high. But again, I'm not sure. Casper prefers first gear launching, but it has 3.42 gears in it, and sticky tires.

Thanks for the tips Pat I am gonna try 2nd gear next week and see how she likes it.

Justin, you should have no problem getting those rpms on the launch in second gear with the 1058. I know Dustin was doing it with the stock motor. With the 1054 I can't get past 1900 in 1st without pushing through the brakes and in second I can get 2600-2700 before it pushes through the brakes. I tend to launch at 2400-2500 and that gets me right at 32 psi of boost off the line.

Good luck next week, I wanna see a 12.3x run out of that thing!

Thanks Chris not goona make any promises tho so we will have to see. only 2 more times i can go to the track before i leave.

well Dustin loaded a 2nd gear tune on my truck today after dinner so we will see how she does. wont get to pratice any before i go to the track since i will be out of town for the next 4 days. so we will have to see Friday how she does
