If your battery is only a little dead, it should work fine; it'll be just like bump starting a tractor. With the high compression, use a high gear or you will just skid the tires. You will need either a hill or another vehicle to push it; I don't think you could get the speed by having people push it. (And if you have another vehicle to push, just jump start it!)
However, if your battery is very dead, it will not start. The engine requires a fair amount of voltage to fire the injectors, so without at least that level of power, it won't start no matter how fast you turn the engine over. And the alternator won't kick in until the field coil is energized by the computer, which again requires some battery power.
So, if your engine at least starts to crank on its own, it might bump start. If you only get a click, or the dash won't power up--- time to look for a jump start.
