GM to idle Moraine's
DMAX plant

MORAINE, Ohio (AP) - General Motors Corp. says its engine plant in the Dayton suburb of Moraine will be among those temporarily idled to reduce inventory and line up production with decreased demand.

GM spokeswoman Courtney Strickler said Wednesday the DMAX plant, owned jointly by GM and Isuzu, will shut down for about seven weeks, idling its 563 workers.

Strickler said the plant in this Dayton suburb is scheduled to shut down after work on May 15 and then resume production July 6. Strickler said the shutdown could be longer or shorter depending on market demand.

GM announced last week it planned downtime at numerous plants.

The Moraine plant makes engines for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty truck models, as well as the Kodiak and Topkick medium-duty trucks.

This isn't good news, but at least they will hopefully still have jobs by late summer. Hopefully Government Motors doesn't kill this one too.

Bad news bears!! They're probably making the 2010 engines now aren't they? Or at least they should be starting very soon I'd think.

Isn't there a member here who works there and seen all the 4.5 blocks stockpiled? Seem like he has a white truck?

Seen posted on another site where Chrysler Filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy today as well. And will be restructuring with Fiat. And we thought we got hasseled about "jap" engines in our trucks. :D In the article it said the gov't OWNED like 8% of Chrysler via the bailouts already provided and that once the current CEO steps down (he siad he's doing so after the bankruptcy is over) the UAW would be like 53%.

This is what they need to do across the board, Chevy Dodge and Ford. They flooded the market, really bad. Drove by the Auto mall yesterday and you see like 300 friggin Malibu's or 150 Chargers. They aren't going to sell all those damn cars.

On new years I was riding and bumped into 2 guys that worked for DMAX. Shot the shit with them for a bit then asked them what it would take to get on there :D . They told me to look elsewhere because they had just laid off 2nd and 3rd shifts

I was surprised though, for working there they didn't seem to know, or care to share, very much about the duramax engines, present or future ones.

Better order any motor parts that you need now,Once plants idle parts will be hard to find head gaskets and any seals.
