since draining out royal purple 15w40 and filling with rotella t6 5w40, i hear a slappy chatter towards the bottom of the engine on the drivers side when it is first cranked up. It progressively quiets down as the engine gets up to temp. I wondered if the lighter cold temp weight of the 5w40 is the reason. It runs fine but i almost want to go back to 15w. Just curious if anybody running a 5w has noticed similar sounds.

Are you sure it isn't just the typical "typewriter" sound so many of us have for a while after we change the oil?

"after we change the oil"? It could be but i dont remember hearing that its relative to changing oil. I have always heard the famous "tick" on the passengers side that could be confused with an exhaust leak but i dont remember hearing this one even though its only the second time i have done an oil change.. Im pretty aquainted with this truck and its a new sound to the best of my knowledge but it a typewriter is a great way to describe it so i guess it could definately be as you say. Have you typically noticed it to go away? Mine seems to dampen as the motor gets up to temp. Thanks.
