When we rebuilt mine, it actually had a different size gasket on each side. One was the "C" and the other side was a "B". Dont ask me why? I put C's on both sides when we went back together---well, now I have to double check that.

I was always told the 01s had troubles leaking and from 02 up they used different gaskets that supposedly didn't go out near as much.
A lot of them have different gaskets from side to side. It's normal. They check each side individually at the factory and put on what measures right on each side. Kinda odd but thats how they do it.:)

But the head/gasket design is all the same from 01-04 isnt it? Did they just use a different gasket material from 02 on up to help the leaks or did they change the design? I guess what I'm getting at is that I hope I got better gaskets put in now than I did before! Head studs should help too though.

I just remember my wife saying that GM sent a bulletin to them at the dealership every time they ordered head gaskets for an 01 that told her to double check and make sure they were original gaskets before she ordered the new ones because the new gaskets were made different than the originals therefor might have different mearsurments or something. So if you bought them recently you are fine they quit making that style in late 01 is what they told her. She's worked on more duramaxes than anyone I know around here so I go by her word.:) Plus I get to use the GM tools and service manuals so I don't argue.:D

Yeah, that makes sense to me!
