Well, look at the 04-05 LLY compared to the 06 LLY. They won't even run if you swap one to the other.
Difference in a 17-19 and 2020+ engine?

Different codes might require them to redo the emissions compliance. If not enough changed the best to keep it the same code

Ive put a few 2020 L5Ps into the older series body. There are besides the obvious oil cooler upgrade, some minor changes to line routing for the turbo cooling and line to the coolant tank. The front cover was also slightly changed for the new fan pulley design. In fact some of the later 19s had the new style front timing cover. Also the plug for the actuator for the turbo is facing the opposite direction. Other than that i have not seen any differences.
