Does anyone have any recommendations? I would like to get some additional work done in the near future, but I haven't met anyone here I like thus far. Any assistance or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the reply. I'm really not sure exactly what I want to have done yet. I have an older version of the PPE Xcelerator programer that works great. However, I can't seem to run even the second level tune without blowing quite a bit of black smoke and getting pretty high EGTs. And, I have now been getting Code 299 under boost codes.

Thus, I think that I now need better air and exhaust flow. So, here are a few products I was looking into. Any information you have on any of this would be greatly appreciated.

skip the BD exhaust manifold, and the AFE bladerunner you dont need them.

I would also trade the AFE turbo tube for the banks; saves you like 60 bucks.

Scott, got your PM.

I think you should do an airdog pump for sure. Also update the PPE tuner.

As far as underboost and lots of smoke, sounds like a boost leak. Might need to look around for signs of a boost leak. Hopefully its in the boost tubes or a boot (most common) and not the intercooler (least common). We can check it out sometime and see if we see anything. Or you can take a quick look for anything real noticeable right away. Look at the boots and see if there is signs of a lot of oil on them or look for tears in the boots.

Thanks again for the suggestions guys. I will get the air dog, and check for leaks. Mike, do you know the status of the law (and the emissions testing) here in NV re cat deletions? I know it isn't legal, but will it show up when testing? I am assuming it would. Thus does anyone know if any of the after market cats are worthwhile?

As far as the leak, it looks like you were right Mike. Top boot by the intake looks pretty oily and worn out. Are there better aftermarket replacements for these? And, that side is consdered the "cold" side, right?

Thanks so much for the help!!!

You have to have a cat on for visual inspection. Most of us put it on for inspection and the somehow it falls back off (i dont know how it happens all the time but it does). I dont think there is much interest in a aftermarket cat or high flow cat, just remove/reinstall lol. Yes that would be the cold side. Also check the others as well. The driver side lower boot going into the intercooler is a problem one as well. If you have a leak, and fix it you will notice quite a bit of improvement lol. As far as boots, stock from the dealer is good. You may find aftermarket ones, but I suspect the price and quality will be about same as factory anyway.

Tuner went out fed ex today, so now I have to live with an essentially stock truck fro a few days. But at least it is one thing done.

I know this sounds like I am seriously lazy (and that is pretty true anyway), but I don't want the obligation to take off the cat every time I get the truck checked. Right now I am getting ready for a big trial in November, and if something like this was happening when I needed to get the emissions done, I would be screwed.

Regardless, given that the Cat seems to be a serious impediment to the exhaust flow, maybe I will try a high flow cat to see if it makes any difference. Because I don't want to crawl under my truck when I get home, can anyone tell me if the cat attaches directly to the down pipe? If not, I will need to get the additional 4" pieces tubing betweenthe cat and the downpipe once I am ready to do this.

The front pipe with the cat in it is clamped to the down pipe with a v-band clamp and uses a 4 bolt flange to attach to the rest of the exhaust system on the back end.

Swapping them out takes about 20 minutes. For one day of emissions testing, its worth the gains you'll see by ditching it for the rest of the year.

For the cost, it's easier to just swap out the cat with the front pipe. I've never bothered pricing the hi flow cats. What manufacture pipe do you have now? I may have a front pipe laying around you can try out if you'd like.

Wow, thanks for the offer Wes. Isn't that front pipe a pain in the butt to change though? Here we go with the laziness again, but I was thinking I would just purchase the diamond eye (since I saw people on here saying good things about it), put it on and never touch it again.

And, Mike, I am now realizing the cost for those cats. I had seen a 4" "universal fit" for sale for about $300, but now I am seeing the direct fits being a lot more expensive. When we are talking $600-$1000, the work to take the cat on and off doesn't seem quite as bad.... Doesn't the cat clean up some of the smoke though? Will it smoke worse without it or less because the flow is better? Can't thank you guys enough.

Oh, Wes, to be honest I don't remember which exhaust I selected. Likely Gibson, but I'm not 100% sure. Found the Magnaflow direct fit for $549.11 on Amazon, but I can't find anything regarding performance yet....

FYI, I just saw this post from Chad at Alligator Performance. Did they used to be located here in Vegas? Sure wish he would come back. Anyway, it looks like it would have to be welded on, but Chad seems to think that they would work pretty well. Maybe I will try to talk to someone there tomorrow. Was going to order other stuff from them anyway.

There are two ways to do this, you can have your cat cut and installed into the system (I have done this on my 03 for Nevada emissions) or you can buy a Magnaflow 4" high flow cat and have it welded into the front pipe and leave it in place. The part # is 60021 and is a 4" direct fit cat for 59 states emissions. MAP is $257.02 on that part, let me know if I can help.

Used ot be located here, now in Idaho.

Let me see if I can dig up the front pipe, you can try it out.

The cat might clean up some smoke, but a good EFI tune will be built clean. I got a tune that's ~420hp to the wheels and it barely smokes. Cat just creates a big restriction in the exhaust, drives up EGT's and creates a lot of back pressure on the wrong side of the turbine.
