pfw_dfw Cams don’t get indexed? They are geared to each other. Only one cam has the timing belt contact it. The other is the injection pump. Biggest issue I see when these get brought in is cause how the timing belt tensioner gets reset. That has to get aligned with the dot between the small fork window when prying it. Just pull cover back off. Everything has timing marks and so does the new belt. Take your time and make sure they are all on and then pry that tensioner into position, hold it, and tighten bolt. And also the special tools, if that’s what you meant were ordered, can only go on when you have the motor in TDC.

KyleC4, thanks I understood the cam issue, the most important statement you made was:"can only go on when you have the motor in TDC."

That will get the crank in the right place. The cam sprocket would be next. The cams were off by one or two teeth and as a result I had no tach signal; and the check stabilitrack and anti skid warning was on. No codes were present other than the cam misalignment code. Motor starts and runs, but vehicle is in limp home mode.

TheBac yes I did, there procedure was identical, however, the member here, 036.6turbo, was the only poster in either forum that offered to send a Word doc with the pictures.

Thanks guys,

Paul

036.6turbo could you sent me the word DOC with the pictures also [email protected]
I just replaced the timing belt and fear I have it one or two teeth off. The engine starts and runs but is sluggish when you first accelerate. I am open to any suggestions.
