Did some trucks come with dual fuel tanks?

The tank I came up with hides behind bumper and is not seen (on a LMM anyway) It could drop down lower for more capacity, but it will be seen.

Visible below the bumper a little doesnt bother me, the spare was a little visible too.

Also as a W/M tank the options for plumbing are endless....Filler could go behind license plate, or in bed... Or even under the rear fender. A pump like supplied in most W/M kits would plumb right in to the bungs I would weld in. 1 way/check valve cap would vent.

I like behind the plate, bed would work

You won't be able to run the exhaust out the back anymore.

People still do that?:confused::D

As bad as I want a stack, its not going to happen for a long time.

Do you already have something like a Titan tank? That would be 75+ gallons of fuel.......

That's like a mortgage payment a fill up:(

34 gallon factory fuel tank and 115 gallon in bed tank:D Was thinking about a Titan, but I havent done too many long trips in a while. 149 gallon capacity is usually plenty to get me from cheap fuel to the next cheap fuel

good to know. Ill have to check this out this weekend and see if the tank I have figured will work or what needs to change.

Thanks. Dont want to derail this thought of a custom tank, but ...
would a factory rear tank work. Would have to put in a fitting near the bottom of the tank, as the meth pumps are pushers and dont lift fluid up (or thats what I was told)

Hate to rain on this parade, but I'm pretty sure methyl alcohol is corrosive to aluminum. You'd end up running a lot of dissolved aluminum salts through the system until the tank corroded through.

I think, but not sure, that above a certain consentration is corrosive. But 10-20 percent meth isn't. Not positive on that.

Stock rear tank is plastic right?

I'll poke around a little for you. When I last lived on the east coast and was around boats (late 80s/early 90s) I recall a lot of folks getting pretty bent about what the alcohol blended fuels were doing to their aluminum fuel tanks and outboard motors. We kept ours in a slip so always bought alcohol-free fuel at the fuel dock and never had an issue. The guys that trailered and fueled on land were if I recall. And I think that was a 5% or 10% mix.

BAMB!

Totally forgot about that and thru that out the window as I was still thinking the tank for diesel.

Yes Meth will slowly corrode alum at ambient temp. 50/50 mix will be a lot slower but it will happen. Look at a set of cyl. heads from people running meth for long periods of time. In a tank, with at least a 50/50 mix Im not sure how long it would last, I know it would get chalky after awhile. Im thinking a water meth mix would take years to destroy a alum tank, but in that time it will still be having a reaction with the metal.

I thought it was pretty clear-cut myself. I searched around a bit as I said I would do. Seems that concentration, contact time and temperature play into just how much corrosion will practically take place. Very few things I found seem to consider the temperature aspect. Seems that under 72*F you might be okay.

Here's a blast from the past - a discussion mostly between Rick and Michael (Super Diesel) on the subject from 2006. Meth/Aluminum Discussion

Seems you might be able to get away with it. I wouldn't chose Al myself.

Why not use gas tank liner epoxy material to line the inside of the aluminum tank? Seems to me that if it can seal an old gas tank so it can be reused, it can sure protect the inside of a good tank.

Some day I should pull my intake and see what it looks like. Over 135,000 miles spraying meth now

Didn't look at upfitter yet, had other things to do today :).

But if I found a new fuel tank, I could use it for meth right? They are some kind of poly/plastic
