I bet the flapper (the part that opens and closes inside the turbine housing) for the wastegate is gone....

That is what I am really starting to think it is.

I am still trying to understand the concept.

When I put my hand over the intake causing a vacuum which sucked all the hoses flat and killed the truck, why did it not suck from wherever the air is going? That's what is confusing me.

Yepper, if your pourin alot of black smoke, no power or boost, turbo feels free, no play in it, and even a minor (not much) leak you should get somthing! I can only speculate but the vac/kill test outta show if it had a severe leak? A 4-stroke diesel has a tremendous amount of intake suction force, someone on here mentioned that big Cat diesels can suck the head gasket in if the intake gets shut off! If it were leakin bad i would bet you could hear it and it should take longer to possibly die. Also, i happened to blow the wastegate line on my benz apart once and i never heared it blow but once open there was a very noticeable loud air whooshing sound under spool. It was a good size leak and i still made full boost (granted the wastegate wasnt opening:spit:)

If you powerbrake the truck sitting there you should certainly have boost And hear it spooling up! If its just smokin like hell and no turbo whine (and the turbo is free).......
Sticking to my original guess, Wastegate flap valve is broke/gone;) If Dan mentioned thinks so too, maybe hes seen this before? All the internal flap gated turbos ive seen...the flap is attached to the arm with basicly, a badass rivet. With the extreme enviroment its in, i could see it fatiguing and breaking off.

This could be the case, the round plate could have come undone from the actuator. If so, it won't be too hard...a pain in the ass but not hard to un-do the downpipe from the back of the turbo and rock it out of the way far enough to get a flashlight and an inspection mirror in there. I would think, especially if you have a straight piped exhaust by chance, that you would hear a difference in exhaust tone...though I could be totally off on that one.

Every test I have done has come back good. So I am going to assume it is the flapper on the wastegate. I have a turbo coming next week, so when I know for sure I will post here and let everyone know.

I got my new turbo on last night and all is well again.

It ended up being the flapper to the wastegate had broken off.
