Because really neither won. Deer dead, bumper also dead. Funny enough it didn't even hit the top plastic bumper cap so it was still in the right place but the metal underneath folded. Bent far enough back to bend the trans cooler and crimp the one line off pretty good. I drove it that way another 2000 miles and it wasn't getting hot, but I worried about the line cracking where it was crimped off so bad.
So my plan had been to build a bumper like last time, but I just hadn't gotten to it. It seemed more important to get one on fast since there are a ton of deer on the road lately, everyone is hitting them... Ended up with a fab four which seems decent. Some things I would have done different but overall a sturdy bumper. Brother needed one for the same reason at about the same time as me. So you can see the difference between the 08 GMC and 12 Chevy version of the same bumper. They may look a little more squatty in the picture than in person because of resizing the image for the forum.
The trans line as far as I can tell is not to be removed with the engine or front diff in the truck. I tried for hours and couldn't get the original out without cutting it. It has more bends than the LMM version and they are tighter. Just doesn't seem to fit past the front diff. So I cut the ends off and got a hose made with reusable crimp connecters. Slid them over the stock ends and tightened them up, fit fine and much easier to install. May do that on my brother's LMM that has both leaking.
