I hope I posed this in the right place. I am posting this in both forums and need some advice. Ill keep this as close to the point as possible and leave out small details unless asked.
04 LB7, pretty stock

Problem: Dealer performed 8 injector replacements under warranty and 3 glow plugs at approx 111,000mi. The day I picked up the truck it was using coolant…….I’m mean A LOT of coolant,

Took back to dealer and expressed my concern with the usage of coolant, their answer
THEM: “Sir your head gaskets are blown, it will be $4500"
Me: “Seems a coincidence, this truck never used a drop of coolant until the injectors were replaced”
THEM: “must be an unfortunate coincidence of circumstances, it will be $4500 for us to do head gaskets”
ME: “No thanks, I can’t afford that”
I drive home and add coolant; drive for a few days, frequently checking oil and making sure no coolant is getting into oil

I go back to dealer and ask to talk to manager
THEM: “Manager is not here today”
ME: “can I talk to anybody”
THEM: “no but here is (a complete idiot we call a) service writer”
ME:”this thing is using coolant, and it wasn’t using coolant before the injectors were replaced, there must be a problem with the injector job”
THEM: “too bad, bend over and we can take care of you real good and still charge you $4500” OK, my interpretation…..but anyways
They won’t do anything about it. So I pulled valve covers and heads and found problem.

See picture below, the injector cup had debris between the cup seat and the head, allowing coolant to go into cylinder. Combustion to leak into cooling system.

Question, what should I do, this job is taking up space in my production shop and all because of poor workmanship by the tech who worked on my struck and a poor customer service department to take care of any problems. They clearly messed this up and were about to charge me for nothing.
Do I have any grounds for a small claims case? I guess I’m just pissed and could be doing other things that fixing another guys screw up.

inside where the cup seats you can see where compression leaked up and the white spec(debris, looks like trash), also the o-ring right when i pilled injector out

Hmmm...Id put in a call to the owner of the dealership, and let him know what went down, and that GM is getting a phone call about this. Then call GM and let them know what's going on. (now that I think about it, do it the other way around and call GM first..that should make the dealer call much more interesting) Sounds like you have everything documented and your bases covered. Id also find the number for your local Better Business Bureau and give them a call.

Now, IMO the only thing that may screw that up is that you tore the motor apart yourself. They may claim you did it when you took it apart, so be prepared for that.

I own a small licensed repair facilty ASE Certs and been through lots of GM training, i know some people who may help (due to job)..... should be ok, and all kinds of pictures documented. but your right, they may fight back.

I called GM today, but since it was sat all i got was a name and number......
and a GM claim number to start:thumb:

Exact same story happened to us. Dealer told us same story. Ended up tearing it down ourselves not sure if it was headgaskets or injector cups. Sure enough it ended up being injector cup leaking.

Good luck!

If I were you (being that you have a certified repair shop), I would send the dealership a bill for fixing their mistake. Good luck getting it all straightened out.

Sounds like something our local dealer would have done.

I would definitely take this to court if they don't make it right.

im posting in two places so sorry if you had to re-read this

I have a meeting with service manager on friday this week. They sound very willing to see and hear me out. I have already filed a claim with GM, and the recomended me to see the dealership first. (well, actually the 3rd time)
i guess i will see how it goes, I would like to give them a chance to make it right, but if i get bent ill prob just deal with it.

I dont have the time to waste if they dont want to help, maybe ill change my mind, but this crap gets old.

hey i know people make mistakes, but when they lie about it is when i get pissed, and so far they have been lieing scumbags.

thanks for the advice so far

Well, i had a meeting with service manager and their head diesel Tech, They admitted fault and seem like they wanted to help.
The Tech said "I have never seen anything like this before"

Their GM was not there on Friday, so now i have to wait til Mon to hear what they would like to do.

My shop wrote an estimate for the repairs, and thats what i am going after.

The problem.............The dealership is loosing their right to sell Chevrolet vehicles real soon, and the Genral Manager may not want to do anything at all.
f thats the case i have a whole new bag of worms.

This sucks, all because of poor customer service and trying to lie to a customer

I love that expression. . usually comes with the "shake your head and look away" face lol . . but yea no doubt stick with them. . guy here in town had the same thing going on and settled for more than the repair.

well, alot has happend the past few weeks, back and forth, missed called, no call backs ect.....but all and all im pretty impressed with how things have been handeled
earlier this weeek the dealer towed back to their shop and will repair at no cost to me, (labor and parts)

All i have to pay for is is prob fuel filter and oil change?

maybe they will come up with something ill have to pay for, but they
"want to make it right".......and im ok with,

I just had high hopes of doing some things while it was off and they will only put back to stock, no biggie, as long as i get my truck back and the sucker doesnt use 1 gal of coolant each day

just a little update,
took the dealership a battery yesterday, Tech was driving the truck when i showed up,
they replaced the one head.

Ill prolly pick up next week. Sure was good to hear it running again.

Pretty good tech, he got the truck as a basket case, and had together is just a few days.

those Dmax techs definatly earn their money

well, this deal is done:thumb:

the local dealership treated me right,

New head gaskets
1 New head, all seals/gaaskets
Oil change
Fuel Filter
all at no charge to me.

I simple mistake, turned into a big repair for them.

I wasnt trying to get anything for free, just my truck back to the condition it was in before they worked on it.

Now there is a new Service manager, service writer and new tech. Goes to show your buisness is only as good as the employees working there.

thanks for the help and advive everyone
