I need help guys. Check Engine light came on on Saturday. Took the truck to Auto Zone to read the codes. Dude told me one or more glow plugs was bad. Didn't ask for the codes (dummy) and went on. Been driving the truck with no problems until this evening. Got in the truck to drive home. Volt meter was above 12 volts but never got above 14 volts. No other telltales came on or DIC. Drove home and checked battery voltage, was 12.15 volts. Shut off the truck, checked again, stayed at 11.78 volts. Isolated passenger side batter by disconnecting it, passenger was 12 volts, driver was 11.5 volts. While checking the batteries I smelled something electrical. Looked around the GPCM and noticed some smoke, electrical smell. I had a meeting I had to get to so I took the truck to the meeting, noticing the voltage getting lower. Went to the meeting, came out a hour and a half later, and the truck was completely dead, nothing. Got a ride home and came back to the truck later, checked the battery voltage again and it was 0.5 volts. My guess is something shorted in the GPCM draining the batteries with out the key switch on. Can I disconnect the large main power wire that is going to the GPCM and still jump start my truck? Just don't know if disconnecting it will cause other issues. This is my daily driver so I need to get it up and running again quickly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
