My opinions:

1) Try going back to stock tune first. It could be something in the Hypertech tune causing it.
2) Check for codes. Could be Throttle position sensor, maf or something else.
3) Wiring from throttle could be grounding out intermittently.
4) Others have suggested checking air or fuel filter, but I dont think its that.

have you heard of this before? that sounds fun to find

I have, but it involved a quadzilla programmer, not hypertech and not a sstock truck. Like jon said, I'd check your TPS wiring. A bad ground or loose connection could cause something like this....

I know the NSBU can cause some funny issues, not sure if this is one of them or not.....

edit: any codes??

If you have a California truck you will need a OS from a CA/02 OS.

If you brought it to CA from another state and it is a Federal Truck I can supply the OS/15186006 Federal File.

I do not know if I have a 2002/Cali OS in my laptop, but If anyone has a 2002 in CA and can report what the segment info is then I can check or maybe they can just post the OS cal here.

;)
