I posted a thread about this a while back and thought i had it figured out. well i don't so here goes again. i was coming home from work this morning on the highway and noticed the truck was lugging bad and go figure i looked at the v2 and vane pos was at 0%. i stopped shut the truck off restarted and no help. oh and it was raining however no water on or around the filter. so i came home (pissed) checked wires, connections, oil level and all seemed fine. an hour later still 0%. im ready to euthanize this cat and jump on the borg wagon.

We typically don't send vane position sensors with cheetahs, but give me a call and I'll send you one.

It isn't a cheetah or VNT problem when the vane sensor goes bad. It's just like any other sensor. The crank sensor may go out on your truck and not start, but that's no reason to swap the engine.

But if you want to step up to a pedestal charger, call me we'll discuss your options.

no codes and it only happens when moisture is present. after auto car wash it gets lazy for a short period but this is the first time it has acted up in the rain. could there be water getting around the ecm or fuse box harnesses and creating a dead short or something?

Just had a chance to check some things out a little. First thing i tried was pulling out the vps and checking it with v2. It seems to be working fine with full range 0-100%. I'm about to go out and pull the actuator.

Well after I checked the actuator for open circuit and a dead short I put it back on and started the truck now it seems to be fine. So I started to wiggle wires and when i got to the connector on the act. I could see the part that the vsp rides on moving just a slight bit. Well I'm not 100% convinced this is the only problem so only time will tell. Thanks to all for your suggestions and thanks to fleece for their support:hug:

Yesterday for the second time with absolutely no water or moisture present my vane actuator is dead once again. Someone on here has to have had a similar issue. Ill list the codes the cel has shot in the last few months asap but right now my truck has zero vane movement and a po0045 code. Any ideas?

p0045 is a vane position sensor code, so there could be a chaffed wire I would think somewhere thats causing a short. Just spend a few hours looking through everything that could have a chance of getting wet

It only happened at an automatic car wash for the first few times then once in real heavy rain. Ill tell ya what though I haven't seen a drop of rain in three weeks or a car wash so water is not the only problem. As far as wire a chaffed wire that's what I'm leaning towards just don't have a clue where to look. That's why i was hoping someone had some more details on troubleshooting. I've read countless threads on vane pos sensors and actuators and sticking unison rings and burnt vanes and boost leaks and dirty mafs etc etc...been there replaced that. Anyone gotta 463 for sale? I'm ready.

the vps wire is not very strong and can brake very easy....ive seen that happen before[/QU

Fwiw I'm pretty sure that even with the vps unplugged the actuator still works. I've removed the vps from the charger and had the v2 on the dashboard while pushing the indicator in and saw full range of motion. Done this numerous times. Also watched down the hole for actuator movement.
