Just picked up a cheap work truck this weekend rust free has a decent utility box on it ran awesome drove it 2hrs home with no issue. The next day I went to drive it and it started right up but wouldn’t rev over 2k. Turned off and cycled key a few times nothing made a difference except the fuel gauge drop and gas light came on.

I limped it to my shop. Disconnected the battery threw a new fuel filter in it just to eliminate that possibility. Started it up drove it about 3 blocks and it went back into limp mode gas light etc.

Poked around the truck a bit and found the power pup under the seat so I checked the codes and got -

P0202
P0203
P0205
P0208
P0380
P1404
P2149

Cleared codes started up fuel light started working again but it was still in limp mode. Tried pumping the fuel filter a few times it was easy to pump took about 7 pumps before it was solid then i waited to see if it bled down after 45 seconds or so I was able to pump it again.

I found a few threads with similar issues but no solutions aside from adding a lift pump. I would like to fix the issue first and add a lift pump later.

Any help would be appreciated thanks

Hmm...you didnt say it was a Cali emissions truck. I would do as Chris said. Thoroughly check the harness around the alternator. Wires can break inside their cover. "Seemed" isnt a diagnosis, its a guess.

Didn’t know it was a Cali emissions truck. I was just giving it quick look for exterior chaffing or any obvious issues before I turned In for the night. I’ll tear into in the morning and give it a thorough inspection. I found a couple more forums with people who had the exact same issue but no one reported back with the fix. The low fuel light seems like an odd symptom but goes away when I clear codes comes back after a few start ups.

When I took the old fuel filter off barely a any fuel came out, it wasn’t until I had the filter on the bench and removed the WIF that fuel poured out not sure if that’s normal or not?

In the truck did it have the service record binder? The reason I ask is when I bought mine at auction it had a very detailed record and notations/findings. Helped to diagnose a few things and let me know the service intervals. Also any extra info on the truck might help more then members here saying chaffed wiring. Maybe they would be more specific on what color or exact locations because of that information. Good luck what auction didyou pick up the truck at?

That is true clearing codes won’t fix the problem but it definitely helps with the diagnostic process

Will not getting enough fuel trigger those codes? I was out messing with it today and while it was running I pushed down on the filter head primer thinking it should be hard but it pushed down pretty easily

Unless you have a lift pump installed the primer bulb will be soft while the engine is running. Think about it. The fuel lines are under suction so pushing on the bulb will be easy with the CP3 pulling the fuel from it

And those injector codes are electrical not feul related

So far only issue I’ve found is a loose bolt with what appeared to ground wire coming off it near the driver side ex manifold

With how constant this is im starting think a bolt that holds the harness to the injector has backed off under the valve cover

It's happened before. But to be on all four injectors??? A bad ground, chafed wires or even a bad FCIM seems more realistic
