Liquid nitrogen isn't hard to obtain in the US either. Most gas (welding gas, etc.) shops will have it, or at least be able to get it. I don't think you need a license (or even training) to buy it. It has a ton of legitimate uses, and some awesomely "dumb" ones (like making ice cream).

Both where I work now and the job before have it plumbed in to the building for cooling equipment to absurdly low temperatures for testing.

In this case, I would initially assume the guy was in a coma from asphyxiation due to displacement of the oxygen. My chemistry is a bit rusty, but I don't think it reacts with chlorine, etc. Nitrogen is a very inert gas.

Looks like I was right, it was just asphyxiation.

Nitrogen is a very inert gas.

It has nothing to do with the nitrogen reacting. As David said, nitrogen is one of the most inert elements, which is funny considering that it is one electron away from one of the most reactive (oxygen). Air is already 78% nitrogen. It's just when it approaches the 100% threshold that bad things start to happen.

Jager did that to me in Parker..... damn river float is a good excuse to drink and be on the water. 2 Kirkland Signature sized bottles and god knows how much beer later and I found out Nfab steps don't taste good. Had to be "assisted" into the truck.

Jagger will never taste bad.....ever.

Many gases displace oxygen. Same reason why you can shoot butane into a paint can after using it so it doesn't begin to catalyze. I'm assuming they had a lot of it or were confined. Or both.
