My 2001 LB7 is about to roll over 200k is the stock dampener something I should consider replacing as preventative maintenance? I would imagine the rubber from age alone is showing itself, what would you recommend replacing with?

If the rubber is cracked and starting to separate from inner/outer edges it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace. There are some cheaper dampers out there (Dorman etc) as well as some off-brand SFI approved dampers. I personally am a fan of the Fluidampr over the ATI style but its like the old Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge debate, there are just too many ways to skin a cat.

This would be a chance to upgrade over factory. I think last i checked the factory damper at my cost is over $400. Companies Like Wagler sell good used factory ones if you’re looking to save some money as well

When my LLY went in for head gaskets , I was kinda laughed at when I wanted to do the pin kit and fluidampr HB as preventative maintenance. I did it anyways. Read way too many horror stories of failed cranks. The pin was only worn a couple thousands with 200k on the dot. I entertained the idea of a Dorman, bought it, then returned it. Was told to stay away. Pay the money for the all steel.

Do it

I always liked the idea of the fluidampr but always got a little gun shy hearing some of the claims, I suppose I should add one on to the list to keep the ol girl happy, probably lean towards an upgrade

Like I said, I would best describe the Fluidampr vs ATI/SoCal debate the same as Ford vs Chevy. Both dampers are far superior to stock and both have different ways of achieving that. I personally am a Fluidampr fan.
