So it was about 7ºF this morning, and the truck started and idled fine, got a few miles from home and i assume the windchill froze the filter.

After changing the filter I realized i didn't have my efi with me to clear the fualt code. So here's my actual question. The derate strategy seems really odd. applying throttle the rpms come up slowly and no power until it hits about 1250rpm, then whammo full nuts... BUT if there is vehicle speed and the rpms drop below the 1250, hit the throttle and full power right away.

Anyone know the reason behind this???

Almost sounds like it could be a faulty MAF reading...or vane position solenoid or something like that....:dontknow:

I had this problem a couple of days ago but I put it in the shop and I have not had a problem since. Where are your filters.....I am getting nervous, because I am going up by Winnipeg Canada tomorrow and don't want to be screwed at negative 15. I am going to get some extra filters, but I was thinking about making a escalated shield, due to it being on the outside of the frame rail....

my factory filter froze, it was my fault. Old filter, low fuel in the tank with no additive. And clearing the code immediately made the truck run like normal. I could hear the vanes change too and idle smoothed out. I wonder what all they do when it's active.

Mine gelled up partially last weekend. Had white bottle power service in, and it fired up and idled great. But as soon as I tried to drive it threw a P0087 low fuel rail psi and wouldnt go over 2000 rpm with no power at all. Dumped in a bottle of 911 and it ran perfect within 5 minutes.

i cleared the code pretty quick, but I thought it was a 166 something, but that is a damn 02 sensor code... who knows.

Mine did the same thing wouldn't go over 2000rpm without kinda jumping around, I parked it and let it run after putting some 911 in we will see in the morning I guess. Should check my filter too

Not that it pertains to your issue but if your truck was already outside all night the wind chill has nothing to do with the filter freezing. Wind chill can not make a inanimate object colder than the ambient temperature.

Been there before. The trick I've always used since is anytime the temp is below 30 F I am very light with the throttle. I don't like that part but it sure beats limping along.

That's what I did and I got up to normal speed but it just kinda scared me a bit then I figured it was gelling up enough for it to restrict flow through the filter

Use an additive and most of the time you wont have to worry, but just in case keep some 911 in your tool box. Thank the lord I dont have to worry about this at the beach...:D

This past weekend my fuel gelled up at my lift pump even with two bottles of the power service in a half a tank of fuel. Did it enough to kill the engine. Some 911 finally got it running.

Then was drove down the interstate the ram air affect would pull whatever heat is in the filter and engine bay out and gel the fuel.

No most likely your fuel was starting to gel/wax and it just plugged up your filter while driving. Having it plugged in does nothing for the fuel tank, So unless you left it idling long enough to warm up that fuel too....

My question is why did I never get any codes I know the rails were down because the throttle was very quirky and if I let of the throttle it would die

I have been running the optilube winter blend for the last three winters and no problems yet. It always worried me haveing the airdog filters down on the frame but no problems yet nock on wood.

For some reason I didn't throw a code either, maybe it wasn't gelled enough to throw a sensor? Not sure

Your tuning most likely widened the values that trip low rail pressure...
