mantua, oh
I'm getting these codes again I'm getting left wheel speed sensor c0035 c0245 speed frequency and c0201 abs code. I changed the speed sensor so that's not it. The bearing seems perfectly fine. I need some thoughts. I also am getting a b0229 code recirculate feedback position code. .???

All ABS fuses r good? Trace the wires from the wheel inboard. Check the pins in the associated connectors.( they can be bent down in the plug)

well that was my guess, other than follow the wires back and look for anything that could be damaged or a bad ground

Am I correct in saying the bearing usually needs noticeable play to cause a code?

Usually yes, make sure the mounting flange at the hub is clean and flat so the sensor sits properly in its bore (file or emery cloth is usually enough) also the EBCM grounds under the drivers door on the fram rail, make sure that ground is good and clean.
