Kinda! :(

I just found out I was a victim! Some schmuck POS tried to book airline travel with Philippine Airlines and also a Room at the Sunset Inn! WTF!!

Have no clue what so ever how someone got my CC! It was caught by the CC company. Attempted Charges were in excess of 2K.

Now I'm worried about a bunch of other possible issues!

Thats BS these scumbags!

Someone in floridia went to twenty grocery stores totaling 3 grand within 20 min before our bank sealed the account. Lucky we got it all back buy not sure how they got the number in the first place. Hope you get out all figured out. A buddy of mine had someone use his credit for a motor home years ago and he went to buy a car they asked if he still had it. Lol at least they made all payments on time.

Seems to be happening more and more these days :villagers:

Someone jacked my Amex card # last year for over 2k before they stopped it at a Sprint store.

Amex credited my account back immediately though.

I check my credit cards at least once a day online.

Sucks for Pat though he can't sneak anything past me :roflmao:

Yeah I use PayPal any chance I get. It could be totally unfounded but I feel a lot safer using that than just my card alone :embarrassed:

It's shopping online thT can get uou

While nothing is foolproof, shopping with well known vendors is helpful. I shop online all the time, Amazon, Jegs, Summit, etc and never had an issue. I was looking for some gas grill parts and bought a burner from a small company I found when googling the part number (they were considerably cheaper). It was my debit card and an employee got the information and made 7 fraudulent charges. It was a nightmare because he made purchases (candy and flowers, and Direct TV) and used my information and address. When I went to dispute the charges they fought me on those because it was my card and my address and they were "mixed" in timeframe wise with the other fraudulent charges as well as some legitimate charges I made. I got my money back but it was a PITA, plus I had to fight as it was overdrafted from the charges and they charged me for it (did get it back but still a hassle).

Prior to that my Credit Card information was stolen and charged 3700. I ordered some items from Kennedy Diesel and his secretary emailed me saying the charge was denied by my CC company. Not only was it a PITA to fix, but embarassing at the same time.

Mackin, I hope you get it straightened out quick, it's not fun.

Dude, sorry to hear that. I sometimes wonder if its not the identity security companies that are the ones stealing people's identities so that they can stay in business just like those damn anti-virus guys make the viruses that they "protect" us from. Anyways, hope it all gets sorted out for you.

That sucks man...

I generally get my paypal hacked into every 2 years or so....always at the worse time, like on vacation or out of the country.

Last time was 40+ charges from apple.com for apps for an ipad when it first came out.

I keep one of those walmart money cards for online shopping. if they steal your info they can't realy get anything since I only put money on it when I'm going to buy something or whatever.

Isn't the safest way is to provide the 3 digit security code on the signature panel? I thought that was the safest as you need the card for that. Unless when you provide it online then all bets are off. Or possible your zip code there again on line your one.

In my case like a Airline they wouldn't ask for it nor would a hotel over the phone. Crap now a days they have those readers that steal your CC number walking down the street.

One of my cards and some merchants even require a password after you input all the card info. It then authenticates that directly with Visa.

I know my checking account Visa is like that.

It all sucks for sure but never use your ATM card!!! Use credit cards for all on-line purchases! I have just about stopped using my ATM for anything anymore, the credit cards are insured for this and it doesn't attack your bank account. Like Leadfoot said use only reliable vendors, it still isn't a guarantee but it helps. My inlaws get it just about every year and they are careful.

I'd like to know how these people never get caught?

I mean if they order parts online and have them shipped... where are the products going? Typically places will not ship to a PO box so...

Buddy of mine had his card number stolen and about $1500 worth of charges racked up for flight tickets and crap. He never heard anything back if they got caught or what.

F-That, someone steals my shit i'm gonna make damn sure I track them down CSI style.

You would think on a flight where your name is priority they would easily catch you. Not like you can buy a ticket and use a fake name unless you have the supporting ID's and such. Then again, might not be a problem for a a-hole who is willing to steal credit cards.

They don't get caught because the PD does not consider it much of a crime. It's seldom investigated or prosecuted.

It's not that the punishments aren't strict enough, it's that the PD did not "witness" the crime, and it often crosses juristictions. It's too much work, so they ignore it.

In any case, the #1 time you will get robbed (yes it's a robbery) is at restaurants and stores. The employee copies the info and sells it.

#2 is social engineering theft on the internet. Somebody acts like a "trusted party" and gets your data.

#3 is when a vendor gets hacked.

#4 is an actual vendor being dishonest. Rare, because it's a hassle to get CC processing, and if you have a bad history, you won't get it except at very high transaction rates.

Some tried to charge $25,000 worth of equipment from Dell to us, and Dell called me, since I seldom spend over $2k at a time. The PD had the Ship To address and everything, and still refused to investigate.

That's insane. You'd think with how frequently it happens now a days they'd want to make an example of someone and make it as publicly know as possible.
