Ok, I haven't got to run the codes on it yet because I have been working nights, but heres the rundown. My wife went to leave work the other night after letting the truck warm up for about 15 mins. She put it in reverse and backed out, then put it in drive and it didn't grab. So she put it back in park, then back in drive and it grabbed. She started driving and if she barely mashed on the throttle it just reved up like it slipped out of gear, then would grab again. She said it wouldn't shift right and only drove like 35 on the way home so she didn't hurt it. She is 8 months pregnant right now and this is our only vehicle at the moment. I'm not asking for hand outs, but would someone on here be able to help me with getting it fixed. If the price isn't that much different I might just upgrade converter and shift kit, but we'll see. I know this one was long but I'm trying to provide decent info for you guys. Thanks in advance.

I know but I'm at work and don't get off for another 12 hrs. I am going to get the codes as soon as I get home in the morning. I just bought this truck a few months ago, but I think the tranny is probably stock! Does this sound like limp mode possibly? I have heard about that but don't know much about it.

Moved here ,

My guess is you will see a range shift inhibited code , or manifold pressure code , check fluid level and report back with codes so we can further help without guessing .

Alright guys, here's the codes I got;
P0700 - Trans. control sys. malfunction
P0841 - Trans. fluid pressure sensor/ switch A CKT range/ perf
P0848 - Trans. fluid pressure sensor/ switch B circuit high
P0872 - Trans. fluid pressure sensor/ switch C circuit low
P0700 - Trans. control sys. malfunction

Here's the wierd thing. I cleared the codes after I wrote them down, took my wife to eat breakfast, and noticed the exhaust was puffing black smoke. Like it had a heavy tune on it. I was told this truck was stock when I bought it, and it hasn't puffed smoke once until I cleared the codes on it today. I figured what the hell, and mashed on it a little and it set me back in the seat. I'm no diesel mechanic but I'm thinking maybe this trick is already tuned, and has been hurt since before I bought it. What do ya'll think?

Oh ya, I know I show the PPE on my sig, but it's not on the truck yet. It just came in the other day and I lent it to a buddy to do some pulling with his truck. So since I have owned the truck it hasn't been touched by a programmer.

It only acted up when it was cold outside, like in the teens. The truck also has 120,000+ miles on it. I don't know that the previous owner ever had the fluid and filter changed. Do you think maybe the fluid is so old or thick that it's taking longer to warm up and get to moving around in there?

Does it seem thick, dark colored and/or burnt smelling on the dipstick when you check it? Assuming you've checked it at this point.

Haha. Yes I have checked it, and it did seem a little thick and dark but didn't really smell burnt that I could tell. I've been sick the past few days though so it might just be my nose.

Well, I'm gonna try changing the fluid and filters, and maybe adding a PPE shift kit. I't seems to be working fine now as long as I let it warm up for about 15 or 20 mins. That should last until I have the money to send it off and have it built.
